Neither does the person McCain chose to be one unfortunate event away from the Presidency.
Still think he wasn't specifically talking foreign relations or related items?
So the Dems presidential candidate has no experience or background on national security, but that is ok because the Republican’s VP candidate has no experience or background on national security either?

McCain: Russia crisis highlights need for experience
By Alister Bull Wed Aug 13, 6:32 PM ET
________
But McCain is fully confident his VP choice, who has no experience in these matters either, would absolutely have the skills and abilities to take over if something happened to him (isn't that the major role of the VP?).
Unfortunately, the dems will be too dumb to use this.
It would be priceless if they had an ad that listed ALL these quotes from McCain and then said, "We never thought experience was a big issue, they did. Now, apparently, it's not an issue at all. John McCain, which is it? Were you misleading everyone before and telling the truth now or were you telling the truth before and misleading everyone now?"
They aren't smart enough to do it. SLAM dunk and they will blow it.

Tell me the difference experience wise between Obama and Palin?
I see none and outside male vs female the differences between the two are negligible.
The most moronic president ever is leaving office and we are debating if Palin has military experience?
The last 16 years of presidential leadership had little to zippo military or foreign relations experience. Eight of those years were pretty good, eight were pretty bad.
The VP discussion is fun for a little bit but it really does not count for much in the longer term.

Koaj is right.

This isn't about foreign policy experience or anything.....this is out-and-out pandering at the highest level to pick up a couple million votes to put McCain in office.
My god......the transparency is mind-boggling.

I realize you aren't smart enough to grasp so I'll try one more time. But that's it because you obviously don't get it.
See if you can follow along:
1. McCain attacks Obama for lack of experience in military operations, national security, and the like.
2. I've never made an issue out of lack of experience....I don't think it's that big of a deal in Obama's case. I don't necessarily think it's a big deal in Palin's case either (I'll decide if I like her after I find out more about her).
3. McCain OBVIOUSLY thinks experience is a big deal, right? He keeps hammering Obama with it.
4. Then tell me why a man of virtue....a man true to himself and his convictions.....chooses a person with ZERO experience in all these areas he has deemed so vitally important to be next in line for president (especially when he KNOWS this is an issue for people because of his age and health history).
Are you not smart enough to see the disconnect or are you going to sweep it under the carpet like everyone else?

Good Lord, WS, that is not the point at ALL: Read this again:

I honestly can't believe people are letting him off the hook for this without even batting an eye.

Obama had a hole large enough to drive a Hummer through and the issue of foreign policy came into the spotlight and he REACTED.
What is the difference?
Palin has equal experience to the DEM presidential candidate, Biden and McCain are similar on their experience..the net net TICKET wise is pretty equal.
I dont care for the "If the president dies, who will take office" crap, there are enough advisors around that the president could pass away and as a country our congress, senate and our Executive brance would fare just fine.
Who cares is my point, McCain picked who he thought was best suited and needed..next week we will be talking about something completely different anyway.

KU,

Bingo. But who has been making it an issue? McCain.
It's so simple: Obama, with a national audience asks McCain if he thinks it's vital....to have experience. McCain must commit, but you know he will hem and haw. Obama thows the above at him and says, "if you think it's so important (and your quotes show me that you do), why did you choose a VP with no experience in those areas knowing they are one unfortunate event away from being president....I made my VP choice with that in mind. Did you? And if you did, then why chose someone with no experience."
If he hems and haws and downplays the experience factor, then Obama tells him, "I'm glad you cleared that up because what you were saying before is different now and I want to make sure the record is clear moving forward."
Case closed. He's a lawyer. Get after it!

NYTimes: "To counter opponents’ accusations that he lacks experience in foreign policy, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois often cites his ties to relatives in poor villages in Kenya and the years he spent growing up in Indonesia. Now he has added a new personal detail to that résumé: a trip to Pakistan while a college student,,"

The VP choices show more about Obama than McCain to me.
Keep in mind I am no republican myself, in this election I think both candidates are putrid so my comments are just based on my opinion given the events as they occur. I have no biases towards either party or any affiliation at all.
Obama is obviously reactive in how he makes choices..to me (and the MONEY btw) Biden was a reactionary pick based on perceived weakness and a counter move to shore up an area where Obama was exposed. Who here thinks that Biden would be an integral part of Obama's foreign policy decisions? I dont..the choice wasnt to improve his cabinet and to complement him down the road, it was a decision made in reaction to attacks from McCain.
McCain hasnt been attacked about the female vote, he didnt pick based on a reaction to Obama or political ads attacking him. His wife and her personality and class is more than enough to make that an non-issue. He probably wont take too many Hilary votes or female dem votes based on this decision, I think he went with what he felt was the best person for the situation and to represent the majority of voters (women are the majority sex of course) and it was a progressive move that OBAMA should have made.
The reactionary move for McCain (and the money up till today agrees) was to choose Romney.. I think he made a great choice myself.

Actually, Palin is the head of the national guard in Alaska which has some of or best men and women. Thus, that alone gives her more exec and military experience than Barrack the Messiah.

Great discussion everyone, but I think most are missing the point. McCain has nothing to lose by picking her, you can throw experience out the window. McCain has it and Biden has it. Obama doesn't and Palin doesn't.
But McCain will hammer Obama on it considering that he has almost none and face it. Obama is the one running for president, not not Biden or Palin.
This was a great out of left field pick by McCain, or should I say the RNC and his people. It will get him the votes he needs.
Do you really think that Obama picked Biden because he thought he would be best for the job. Hell no, he needed someone that had a great deal of experience to back him up.
Now I don't advise, to bad the RNC doesn't get in touch with me. That Palin have any VP debates, that wouldn't be the best move, just as it's not in Obama's best interest to have many debates with McCain.
Everyone seems to be making such a big deal about McCain picking her. What is missed is that a woman is a VP running mate again. Isn't that what a great deal of people scream.
It was great for Hillary to run for president, but it's not ok for Palin to be a VP.
If she was a Dem and picked by Obama, yeah I know both with nil experience, it wouldn't happen but you know what I'm trying to say......I would think that was a great move also.

Holy smokes

You can't seriously believe all this.
McCain picked a woman, any woman, because his consultants and pollsters told him that women were the most undecided group and there was an opening after Hillary was passed on. Romney was the conventional pick. Palin was the pollster reactionary pick.
Obama picked Biden to complement him and bring foreign affairs credentials to the ticket. The reactionary pick would have been Hillary to placate her voters and the party division.

What so many don't seem to understand is that most of Hillary's most fervent supporters (and the ones that the McCain camp are trying to pick up with this move) were middle aged women who identified with Hillary, not just because she had a vagine, but because they too had many experiences in their lives where they had been leapfrogged for positions by lesser qualified, charismatic men. That's what resonated with Hillary supporters.
Kneejerk move instigated by the repub pollers.
