Republicans were in charge of the House for 6 of those 8 years.  The Origination Clause (part of Article 1 of the Constitution) states that all bills for raising revenue shall start in the House of Representatives.

If the Republicans refuse to adequately fund the government, budget problems are inevitable.  Since Republicans detest taxes, deficits will prove troublesome.

By the way, the trade deficit with China has been exploding.  Trump doesn't know what the hell he is doing, and he is certainly feckless dealing with China.

Correction - the chart in Comment #453 only covers the first seven full month's of Trump's Presidency.  Maybe there has been an improvement since then.

I encourage anyone on any side of the political spectrum to post a more current chart.  TIA.

This is funny, I mean funny in a silly way not an amusing one. How much debt was accumulated due to the circumstances Obama inherited? His first two years in office were in the financial hurricane originating well before he ever started. On the flip side, Trump walked into a relatively stable economic environment with a very high stock market, healthy real estate market and a baseline GDP, there were zero issues he had to face.

The first two to three years of Obama the deficit increased more due to the economic environment, AND GDP was flat to down for those first several years, then as the environment improved the debt growth slowed especially relative to GDP growth.

Trump has zero reason to grow debt at the rate that he has, and with the way the tax cuts freebies have been allocated, the debt is going to grow much faster in the next five years for sure.

Sometimes you have to look at more than the political party and just a single number to make a valid conclusion. Raising debt in a growing economy makes no sense, especially if the use of that debt is for atrocious purposes like growing the military when we dont need to or giving freebies to corps off the back of historic high stock market valuations.

Wallstreetcappers is right.  Presidents should be judged by performance under circumstances at the time.  Good governments are supposed to increase budget deficits during recession and decrease deficits during strong economy.

Obama is successful in doing both to help US economy recover from recession.  Clearly, he deserves his high ranking in economic management in Cspan survey of 80 presidential historians.  However most economists consider Trump tax cuts unnecessary in increasing deficits and harmful in the long run.

Wallstreetcappers is right.  Presidents should be judged by performance under circumstances at the time.  Good governments are supposed to increase budget deficits during recession and decrease deficits during strong economy.

Piggy, the self proclaimed Jobs President, has requested HB1 visas to hire foreigners for his Mara Lago resort. I'm sure there are plenty of piglets out there that would love these jobs.

    He's a lying POS.

    "Putin's fine."

Piggy is so far up Putin's butt it's a national disgrace & everyone is laughing at him & us.

On the same night he showed his complete ignorance of the 1,00 Points of Light concept because he's never volunteered to help anyone but himself .

    He's a draft dodging POS.

Piggy in Montana..."But we signed a beautiful paper saying there going to denuclearize their whole thing. It's going to happen."

What leader speaks like this? A beautiful paper? Their whole thing?

Meanwhile there's satellite proof nothing of the sort is happening.

The meeting with Un was a charade to begin with & Trumps totally false characterization of it only served to try to justify him stopping the important military exercises with So. Korea. Another gift to his Russian handler, Putin. Interesting how that possibility/decision was discussed with noone before Trump did it on his own.

Now Trump's meeting with Putin but wants it all in secret...no other aides, transcriptions, nothing. My guess is they'll work out something that will make it look like Trump is being tough & effective, but in reality will only serve as another attempt at manipulation of the American people in the face of the Mueller probe. Sad stuff..

SS, not going to get into false equivalents here but what are you saying, if anything? That because Obama said that, you would be fine with Trump somehow being compromised &/or beholden to Putin if that's shown to be the case? As long as he & the repubs remained in power to pursue their agenda?

China will now go to other countries for their soybeans & this will negatively affect American farmers for decades.

Piggy's administration will miss the court ordered deadline to reunite children under 5 with their parents.

Yet Secretary of HHS Azur told Congress he could find any child's location with a few keystrokes.

OK so really how dumb can Piggy be?

He thinks North Korea is giving up its nuclear weapons, the border wall is under construction & he's going to get his Space Force.

He is so weak he has to select a new Justice from a list provided to him by a special interest group.

Ever hear of Noel Cintron? Me either until today.

He's longtime Piggy personal driver for over 20 years. He's suing Piggy's company for unpaid overtime wages required by NY state law. Instead he was paid a salary. He received 2 raises since 2003 but one involved him giving up his Piggy health insurance in order to get the raise of 7k. Cintron had to go on his wife's insurance policy & Piggy saved 10k on the arrangement. I've never been asked to make a deal like this to get a raise.

I realize this guy accepted this as a salary job & stayed because he needed it. But it's the little things like this that really paints the picture of this Pig many of you adore. He regularly stiffs the little guys & breaks labor laws. I guess Cintron is lucky. He got to keep his kids.

I hope they do a movie on this called "Driving Mr. Dipsh!t."

He's a petty little little man.

A Vox analysis of hiring records for seasonal workers at three Piggy properties in New York and Florida revealed that only one out of 144 jobs went to a US worker from 2016 to the end of 2017. Foreign guest workers with H-2B visas got the rest.

    Jobs President....what a disgrace!

Last Friday the Labor Department put out a very solid monthly jobs report:   Employment increased by 213,000 in June and hourly earnings rose by 2.7% on an annual basis...The GDPNow model estimates for real GDP growth(seasonally adjusted annual rate ) in second quarter of 2018 is 4.1 % on July 2nd ..up from 3.8% on June 29th..

Under the previous administration the annual GDP never exceeded 2.6%..  President Obama is now the only President in history to never have a a year of 3% GDP growth...an avg. GDP growth of 1.48%during both his terms ............................jobs indeed..
