Well, bro, you don't know much about Republicans nor Californians. For one, Republicans will eschew their own beliefs and even repeatedly vote against their own interests to tow the party line. They'll vote for a liverwurst sandwich if it's Republican. It's definitely the more unified party.
For two, Californians are, by birth, all batshit crazy. I'm including myself in this. We voted an Austrian action movie star into office. And he was even a Republican though moderate. And you know what? He wasn't half bad. I thought it would be a disaster.
Third, not every Californian Republican is some redneck from the Central Valley or the State of Jefferson. Their are plenty.... well, some, afflluent, college educated Republicans who don'y cast votes with their hearts. Hell, in a state as diverse as California, there are members of the LGBTQ community who are Republican. Hell, even Milo Yiannapolus is "happy".
Fourth, Californians all have a screw loose. So there will be liberals who will vote for Jenner just on name recognition (see above). There will be people in the trans community who will vote for Jenner, regardless of politics, just for the historical ramifications.
I'm not saying I think Caitlyn Jenner wins. What I am saying is California is a different planet and Californians are like Martians. Doja and I are from opposite ends of the state yet i'm sure he'll agree. There are sub-regions that have there differences but there are certain things that unite us all. We all feel like were stars in our own right. We all march to the beat of our own individual drummer. And we're all a little off our rockers. Look at me. I ham it up a little. There's some shtick involved but it's all me. I don't make any of this shit up. Just take what you can glean from Doja and I on this site, times that by 30 million, add in 10 million transplants, and 10 million illegals and you have California. There's no making sense of that state.

Caitlyn hired a bunch of Trump aides to run her campaign too. Too funny. 
Aides from the same previous President who banned transgenders in the military, enforced "religious protections" to allow doctors and healthcare facilities to deny healthcare services to trans people based on religious beliefs. The list goes on.
Caitlyn Jenner running as a Republican Governor in Cali of all places is the best thing to happen to Gavin.

Let's face it, she can't win if only Republicans vote for her in Cali, she is far outnumbered.
Hard core-conservatives won't vote for her, Evangelical Republicans won't vote for her, I don't care what anyone says. Democrats won't vote for her.
In 2018, she admitted that Trump was not good for the LGBTQ+ community, especially because of his repeal of Title IX education rights for trans, trans military ban, religious protections allowing discrimination against trans.
Then she hires Brad Pascale (Trump aide) to lead her campaign. Too funny. Seems like a no-win situation.
I realize that Cali Republicans hate Gavin Newsome, but come on I don't see a path for Caitlyn, unless there is just so many candidates that the vote is split. But even then, Newsome has the advantage because he is the incumbent.

Electorate being different meaning that Californians are much more open and tolerant to transgender issues and rights in 2021 compared to 2003. The issue was not discussed or open like it is today. Not even close. Yes California is liberal and progressive, but transgender was definitely not mainstream like today 20 years ago.
