Tourney lasy night...

Question

I played in a local tourney last night. About 50 players, 75.00 buy-in. &#xD;&#xA;We started with 5000 chips, I was doing ok, was up to about 6200 then I ran into this idiot.&#xD;&#xA;Blinds were 200-400, I catch pocket Jacks, I raise 800 pre-flop, one guy calls. &#xD;&#xA;Flop was 10, 7, 7; all off-suit. &#xD;&#xA;I bet 1000. He calls IMMEDIATELY.&#xD;&#xA;(I am wondering what he has)&#xD;&#xA;Turn is a 9. I bet another 1000.&#xD;&#xA;Once again he calls immediately (at this point, this is more than half of his stack)&#xD;&#xA;Then the river comes, it&#x27;s an Ace.&#xD;&#xA;I check, he checks.&#xD;&#xA;He had AK and won.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Why the fuck would he call such large bets with absolutely nothing? &#xD;&#xA;I was so pissed, and I never recovered from that.

some donks can never let go of AK for some reason. no matter what the board. &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;tough river card man

I feel the pain on donks not letting go of AK.  My only thing with the hand is 2200 in the pot betting 1000 may not have been enough.  I may push all in right after the flop with pocket pairs, he probably still calls and I lose regardless.

You gave him a free card to see by not betting on the river.  Plus you should have bet more than 1000 after the turn. If you would have bet like 2000 or went all in after the turn he would have folded with his AK if he knew what it takes to win a small tourney. One more question for you what postion were you in on the table early, middle or late?

play in a cash game once or twice a week..we have a couple guys, one in particular who cant lay big slick down.  a few nights ago, he was in a hand, he called a preflop raise of 50 bucks..flop comes, other guy bets 75 after the flop with 3 undercard rainbows to his pocket queens...turn is a blank, he bets 125...big slick calls...king hits on the river..queens goes all in for about 300 more..the lotto player calls imediately!!!

Yeah, it was sickening; maybe next time I&#x27;ll go all in on the flop. Dickhead might have still called.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;I was in late position, right before the small blind, he was the small blind.

All-in after the flop would have probably changed nothing.  You made excellent bets at each point of the betting, as you were trying to get information on his cards at each stage.  Going all-in on the flop would&#x27;ve been stupid since you would have overpaid for information on a ten in his hand, and you would&#x27;ve been stuck at that point.  And if the turn was a non-threatening card instead of a straight card, you may have pushed at that point.  But given how the hand played out, I have zero fault with your play.  You just ran into an idiot with a death grip on AK.
