Here is a hand I played there.  The game breaks down and I am
head up with another player.  Playing .50 and 1.00 no limit.
I am on the button with the A K off.  I make it 2.00 to go.  The other player makes it 50 to go.  I call.  He has the J Q off.  No
one is going to make that play unless they know what is coming.
The board comes Q and rags out.  I never played there again.

Do you like A K over Q J? I sure do. If he had A A I would not
make it 50 to go.

He could have had many different hands in that situation.  I just
thought I had the best hand.  I did, and did not have a chance.

You played that hand wrong in the first place.  If you raise to $2 and  he comes over the top with $50, your AKo is beat.  Unless he's a very loose and wild player, the correct play should've been to fold.

This is how smart you are.  The other hand was Q J.  Was I

beat genius?

golfkat - it seems you have a very low understanding of how poker works.  just b/c you have AK does not mean you will win everytime. you seem to think whenever you get dealt AK you have just won and the flop, turn, and river don't matter.

you raise and the guy reraises you (representing strength), unless you like gambling with AK then you should really think long and hard about folding the AK instead of instantly calling.  you know you can fold AK too preflop, you dont always have to push with it and expect to win.

it doesn't matter that the guy had QJ this time, he represented a big hand & maybe was trying to bluff, or maybe he just wanted to gamble.  either way NOBODY knows what cards are coming out so stop with that lame old excuse.

its also funny how you call us decent players shills b/c we want fish like yourself to keep playing in the games.  the more fish, like yourself who think AK is a made hand, the more easy money there is in the game for other players to grab up and build our rolls.

so you can stop calling us shills if we want people to keep playing online poker.  we dont get paid by the sites to tell people to play.  we win money at the tables off you bad players by telling you to go play there, so why wouldn't we want more people there?

ohh and the difference between a losing player and a winning player is knowing when to fold AK.  obviously you are the former rather than the latter b/c you have one bad beat story after another.....

this is where it becomes obvious how little you understand about poker.....

of course your weren't beat preflop with AKo vs. QJo.  you are actually a 65% favorite.  yes that is it, just a 65% favorite.  meaning you aren't beat, yet, but there are decent odds against you that you might not win the hand.

however when the flops comes with a Q and you don't hit an A or a K, you are then behind as a 23% dog.  see how fast those odds change?  you did not hit either or your hole cards and all of a sudden on the flop your monster AK holding is just that, a holding of two random cards that didn't hit the flop. they are junk now and might need to be folded.

this is why it is sometimes it is not a great idea to push allin with AKo preflop.  if you are up against any other two random cards (ie. QJo), you are not even that much ahead - its two random cards vs. two random cards and anything can hit the flop, turn, or river to beat you.  add in a big/med PP against your AKo, and you are in nothing more than a 50/50 coin toss.

you need to learn how the game works, maybe go and read a couple books, and stop the "he must have known what was coming next", "you guys must be shills", and all the bad beat stories about your online poker game.  we all have the bad beats, a good player knows how to deal with them and move onto the next game instead of bitching repeatedly about them.  if you can't win online then stop playing so we don't have to hear you talk about it anymore....

GOLFKAT..without a doubt you need to get a better grasp on the game before you play for real money..bottom line.  a-k is nothing but a drawing hand, so you called his 50 bucks with a drawing hand preflop and u lost...what MOGO said is 100% correct, and if you  dont understand that, you need to quit crying about losing money because you shouldnt even be playing for money if you dont understand the situations of the game.

why don't you to pro players take the Q J  and I will take the
A K and we will see who wins more hands.  Or do you doubt the
A K is a better hand than the Q J.

Guys,
You can quit wasting your time trying to explain this.  He is not understanding what anyone is trying to show him.  That calling a $50 reraise in a 0.50/1.00 game is not the best play.  He prefers to bitch and moan instead of playing smarter poker.  We all have bad beat stories.  Let it go and quit complaing about it in every thread or just quit playing altogether.

Golfkat your frustration is obvious and understandable. However, what these guys are telling you is the truth. YES, AK is DEFINITELY a better hand than QJ but to call a 50 dollar reraise with it is VERY questionable at best. Did you get fucked on this hand??? absolutely But with the logic you seem to be employing at the poker table it wouldnt have been long before you busted out anyways. You should try listening to what some of these other guys are TRYING to tell you and stop listening to yourself speak about something you are obviously too inexperienced or (I hate to say it but) clueless about

I seriously don't know what some of you guys are fucking talking about.

I've heard over and over that the pros get their money in when the odds are in their favor.

Golfkat got his money in when the odds were in his favor.

You trying to tell me that Golfkat should back down with AK every time that somebody comes over the top of him with a big bet?

That's bullshit.   You can't let yourself get bullied around like that and expect to win at Poker.

Yes AK is not unbeatable but the man had the best hand and he got his money in when he was supposed to get it in.

And that is what every pro tells you to do.

For the record, I don't trust online poker either.    I would NEVER play it with real money.

Yeah but his reaction to the suckout and the poker logic he has showed on this and other threads shows what an amateur he really is.

I've heard over and over that the pros get their money in when the odds are in their favor.

Golfkat got his money in when the odds were in his favor.

You trying to tell me that Golfkat should back down with AK every time that somebody comes over the top of him with a big bet?

Greyhound-

He had like $3 invested in the hand.  $3 F-N dollars.  The pot was like $55.  He's a dog to ANY pair out there and a slight favorite to pretty much any other hand.  He was a favorite, but based on the play (and my experience on-line), it was more likely that he was beaten (people over-bet all the time with good hands in hopes of the other guy thinking you are buying it).

And if you are going to be gambling like this pre-flop, the don't piss and moan when it bites you in the ass.

Greyhound has a lot of opinions about stuff he has no clue about. I actually like the guy and he makes me laugh hysterically at times. However, we got into a big argument a while back about how people act in cardrooms when theyre playing. He went on and on telling all of us how wrong we were and then towards then end says he has never actually played cards in a casino!!!! WHAT?????????????? How do u comment on how people act when playing cards in a casino when YOUVE NEVER PLAYED CARDS IN A CASINO?????????????????? It blew my mind that he would spout off so much and so aggressively when he literally had ZERO experience in what he was talking about. So take his opinion with a grain of salt, odds are he has no idea what he's talking about lol
