So i stake my buddy in poker tourneys because he's a solid patient player and im not as patient. I agreed to give him 16% cash winnings for the tourney. Does anybody thinks thats to little or what are some of your opinions? I mean, he has nothing to lose and it's my money so i think its fair. Basically its what ever i would say i guess. What do you guys think overall about this?

I'll never quite fully understand staking. If the guy is a good enough poker player to stake, why doesnt he have the $100 to buy into this tourney???
if you are talking 100 dollars that is true.
However some guys who are good players who are very conservative it is smart to stake in higher limit games.
No matter how much a guy has there is a bigger game around and if you think he/she could beat this game staking them is not a bad idea.
If you play 50-100 NL and beat it, you can very likely beat 100-200, or even 200-400 NL but because of bankroll limitations you do not play in those games.
It is true that in time that same player should end up in the bigger game however that eliminates your opportunity to stake him. Also sometimes in the casinos a really "live" game comes up at the higher limits, and if you know someone you think is strong enough to beat it staking them is not a bad idea.
Of course you have to worry about people dumping chips, lying about results etc etc, but in some cases staking is a very good idea.
BTW 16% is very low, all things being equal you are getting a good deal.

I agree with everything youve said in your post. In "some" cases it'll work but im most cases its an awful idea. Thats my only point. Ask any pro how theyve come out n the "staking" business and I guarantee you'll hear more horror stories than good ones, its just the nature of saking. If the guy is that good he'll get there eventually, The "stakers" are just looking for easy money and more times than not they lose thier investment instead of doubling it and tripling it like they imagined
