There are 2 K's on board and he has K-K-K?  That means he has 1 K in his hand, right?  A king and a what?  If he had A-K, I'm not sure why he didn't make more of a value bet on the flop rather then shove 'em all in.  I realize the pot was up there and he was likely committed if he makes any sort of a bet on the turn, but I sill wonder what his hand was.  You never said what his other card (besides the K) was.

If am I reading the hand correctly you didn't need the 9 on the river.  Didn't you make a boat on the turn?  It looks like you had nines full of kings, or did I miss something?  Based on your comment "crap mother humper hits set of kings", did you not see your boat?  Unless he had A-K (and a higher boat) then the river 9 was just iceing on the cake.  Is that correct or did I misread the hand?  What was his other card?

    Colonel,
Not sure if your comment was directed towards me or brandnew.

I thought a set was when you have a pocket pair and catch a third card to make 3 of a kind and trips is when you have 1 hidden card and and catch 2 of the same to make 3 of a kind.  If this is not correct I would appreciate the info.

Definition from Play Winning Poker website

    Set - Flop a Set - Trips
    1) Set: three of a kind where you have a pair hidden and one more exposed
    2) Flopping a Set: having a pocket pair, and hitting one of your pair on the flop.
For example, you hold 88 and the flop is 872.
    3) Turning a Set / Rivering a Set: hitting your card on fourth or fifth street in Holdem
    4) Trips: three of a kind where two are exposed and one is hidden.
For example you hold 87, and the flop is 882.

smw, that's a BIG difference.  You can win a lot more money with a set.

I understand that but was that comment  (undertanding the difference) directed towards me or brandnew.  Didn't OP have the boat on the turn.  He did not need the river 9 unless villain had A-K, correct?

Exactly, you didn't need the river unless he was holding AK, AA, KK

River 9 could have helped only with AA or AK.  If villain had KK then he would have had quad Kings on the turn.

It was directed to every person who refers to a set as trips and vice versa.

Shit like this is borderline mental. 1st, his play is fine, I'd put the guy on aces betting like he had the king, but didn't, so I would have moved as well. 2nd who cares how the hand ends? He won but he could have lost just as easily. After the point where he has no more play in the hand why would him making or not making his hand be any detriment or accolade to him? Watching the river flip doesn't take nor lack skill. You sound like any other bad beat whiner. Get over it.

this is a meaningless discussion, at this point, everyone is mixed up because of the unclear description of the hand, the only way this thread can have a meaningful progression is if brandnew comes back in here and specifically says villain had XX.

First the guy had kings before the flop.

So let's put him on K-K

    flop shows ace,king,9

    Now he has 3 K's.

    Another king pops up.

This has to be the turn because you made quad 9's on the river and you said the flop was A-K-9.

Sorry, but you lose to quad K's according to your description of this hand.

Feel free to enlighten the forum, but my gut says

If this was true, as I said earlier, then he had quad kings on the turn.  You lost.

If you are tired of explaining the story get it straight in the first place.  There's a big fucking difference between KK and AK preflop.  Do you even know what he had?  I guess it really doesn't matter because you won and that's all that counts.

Good for you that you won but I agree with spoon.  This is the worst storytelling I have ever heard.
