have a friend that plays kinda weird, usually loses, anyways i was playing the other day and talking to him online he was watching me i had 88 and had limped in early position for 400 chips another guy calls button shoves in for 5000 i fold pretty quick (i had about 7k) other guy folds too button shows aq suited. he said what did you have i say 88 and he said omg you folded, ur ahead. i said yea i guess i should have put in 2/3 of my chips to race at best. he says well you know they have ak or aq when they make that move, i said probably but not always. would anyone have called here, to me it makes no sense at all to call this?

i cant see that guy shoving with a bad pair although it is possible if hes loose i guess, but i would say very rarely am i in a dominate position, and i dont really like calling a big bet unless i feel im way ahead, as im sure most of you dont either.

I've run into some over-betting of the pot lately....it used to be raising double the BB in early position = A-A....now I see more over-betting with big hands.....in an attempt to make it look like a move (and I play mostly SNG's so take this with a grain of salt). I think a person who bets $5K to win $1K+ in that spot is either flat bluffing, has a pretty solid pair and is pretty reckless, has A-K or A-Q and is looking to double up or go home, or is over-betting the pot with a monster. I think the flat bluff is probably least likely of those options (minus any info. on your opponent).
You're likely either getting killed or probably racing with the flat bluff and a crap pair being much less likely if you ask me. I can fold that hand in that situation. I'd much rather be doing the pushing with a hand like that.

I really like your fold here. It reads like you had a nice stack blinds 200,400 if I read that right, putting your tourny on the line where at best you are a slight favorite makes absolutely no sense at this point. People who play scared like putting 5000 in with a,q are going to give you their chips eventually so be patient and put your money in when you KNOW you have him/her beat. What sucks is when there are 2 really bad players like the guy who pushed with a,q and some tard calls with 4,4 and wins all his chips and then gets moved before you can get his chips. That always gives me nightmares..lol

Only a maniac would put their tourney on the line with 8's if facing a huge raise. You're either 52/48 ahead or 80/20 behind. Plus with online poker it seems like it's rigged to make aces hit every board to produce more action so I really don't put a lot of value in small pockets unless you can see a cheap flop and hit a set.

It's a fold because you limped but otherwise if you raised and he 3 bet you then you may consider that you are priced in depending upon the person. People resteal all in with 20bbs with AQ and plenty worse alot nowadays. And they are all positive ev plays against the right person.
