This happened about an hour ago.

me:  small blind  chip count:  around 920
opponent:  big blind  chip count:  around 1100

    playing 2/4 NL

-everbody folds to me.  I have 7s4s.  I call.
    -BB checks

    flop:  7h 4h 3d
I check, he bets 16.  I make it 32.  He makes it 84 total.  I make it 200 total.  He goes all in.

I folded.  But I was curious about what he had.  56?  33?  73?  nut flush draw?

Its hard to say what he might have depends upon what his playing style was. However, he reraises a check raise, then reraises again all in. Unlikely to have bottom two pair or worse probably set or straight so a good lay down. Sometimes guys will play AA like that slow playing pre flop and then hitting it hard on the flop. It's bad play of course but sometimes you have to factor that crap in. It's why this game is so hard at times- you give a guy credit for having a hand according to how you would play it when in fact he has junk.

Always difficult when he is in the BB.  But I think he would have raised preflop with pocket pairs.  My guess is that he had A-7, 7-4, 7-3, or 4-3.  Let it go.  You're a good player and a winner over the long haul and that's all that matters.

I think you have to lay it down, however Im confused a little at you checking the flop. Its not a BAD play, but the way poker is these days (im assuming this was online)..bad beats are awful. Id bet that flop based on a heart draw and a possible flush draw to see where I was at. By not betting you may have given him a free card and a possibe straight or flush...if you led out, he raises, then you reraise, and he goes all in...you are almost certainly beat...but in this situation there is an outside chance that you were outplayed, although my guess is that he hit something...

However with you checking the flop, he assumes you didnt hit, which shows weakness...id have bet the flop...

sounds like 2 pair or trips not worth it to pay to find out. Matt damon says it best. You only lose what u put in the middle.

I hate playing against people that check the big blind. There hand is like a mystery then. I have had dudes beat me with straight with like a 3-6 and stuff like that. playing against big blind is trouble. Plus they are in position.

easy/right fold, if i was a betting man, which i am, id bet he had 56. This poker forum is kind of a joke and shows what the players are like, saying he could have a7? and having one of the two 7s and one of the two 4s for a chop is highly unlikely. Hell he could have 52 of hearts in which case he would be about a coinflop vs 2 pair. Good fold, solid player

Just a couple things in my mind......I dont like the lead out check.......too much out there to check your very vulnerable 2 pair.  I do not put him on 5-6 here, because with your check from a blind hand, I'm not quite sure that I would lead out with 5-6.  I would assume that you would lead out with even a flush draw here, so betting the current nuts doesnt make much sense to me.  I guess he could have flopped a set, but I'd probably be hesitant to put him on that too.......I would say that A-7 is the most likely hand.......but you have to analyze what your opponant is thinking too.......what is he putting you on?  Is he just making a play at you because he doesnt believe your check raise?  Have you made a play at him earlier?   I guess there is more to this than meets the eye.....just my opinion.

The main thing is to be selective and pick ur spots this is not ur spot to pick. There is possible straight out there not worth it to see if he has it. All ins are for when u have the nuts. To many people push all in but do not understand the concept. All in is for when u have the nuts and know u are not going to get beat. You do not have the best possible hand in this situation. You got trips and a straight out there plus guy can have nuts flush draw and suck you out for every penny you have. I have seen people push all in with nuts flush draw. Not worth it to call.

tease, what a ridiculous line of thinking, if he is that bad of a player to get attacked to top pair top kicker, then he would obviously be keen on aces and i would expect a raise from him preflop, idk where you usually play but  putting someone on a7 is silly, i think the worst possible hand he could realistically have there is a lower two pair, but even then i have my doubts. The more i think about it the more it ensures me that he flopped the joint or i guess possibly a straight flush draw. To sum it up, no one is fucking risking $900 with a7 at the 2/4 tables....

Not buying he had trips as I'd expect a raise pre-flop (however, I don't know how the table was playing either).  5-6 makes more sense then anything else IMO.

-everbody folds to me.  I have 7s4s.  I call.
    -BB checks

    flop:  7h 4h 3d
I check, he bets 16.  I make it 32.  He makes it 84 total.  I make it 200 total.  He goes all in.

I folded.  But I was curious about what he had.  56?  33?  73?  nut flush draw?

This is an interesting dilemma.  I think the key here is that there were only 2 players in the hand, the blinds, in an unraised pot (always a very dangerous place to put your money in after the flop hits).

With the pot at $8, and the small blind limping in front of him preflop and checking the flop, the $16 bet (twice the size of the pot) seems like one of 3 things to me:  1) realization that the big pair he was slow playing is at risk to a straight or flush, 2) attempt to ensure his nut straight held up and wouldn't get beat by a flush, or 3) an attempt to steal the pot.  The problem is compounded by the fact that this guy decided to re-raise twice, both after reraises.

My gut tells me that #1 or #3 is the most likely scenario here, meaning Kurtz probably had the best hand.  But that assumed this player is an action player and likes to put others to the test.  If he's a tight/solid player, you gotta give him credit for the straight.

Tough situation either way.  It comes down to knowing your player.  Maybe a good fold even if you had the best of it, as you may be able to learn something about him that can help you the next time you are heads up in a big pot.

    1) Don't min-raise if you're going to raise.
    2) A set probably slowplays here because it's an unraised pot involving the two blinds.
    3) I need to know villain's style to help you narrow down his range of possible hands. But, here's what I think given the limited info ...

If he's not a moron, and there's a 50/50 chance of this at a 2/4 table, he'll know you're representing better than 1 pair. You're also not playing this like a flush draw.

Conclusion: he flopped a straight or he may have checked his option with 33 and he's stuffing the pot because he's putting you on two pair.

top 2 pair- gotta smooth call- fuck raising and reraising, seems that just pisses most people off. I'd pay 2 see his flush draw, set, over pair ,or whatever u put him on. 2 cards to come, u gotta be willing 2 gamble sometimes- i think he bluffed u..

No way he bluffed u and if he did it will be so easy to stack him its not even funny
On the flop dont miniraise like a person
pop it to 65 or 70 and see what he does
    This will do 2 things-
if hes on the draw he will have to pay to see it and if he raises back u gotta figure he has a real hand (either you crushed already or a monster draw)

After that unless hes a nut if he reraises dump it

I dont mean this in a bad way but dont play 74s ever if youre gonna play it like this.

    Good points tkf18ny

I'm still puzzled, however, by the opponent's overbet on the flop of $16 into an $8 pot with the nuts - why would he do that?  Afraid of the flush?

If the guy is a loose nut, I can't help but think he's got an overpair.  The flop bet is much more consistent with that overbet, given straight and flush draws.  I realize the guy kept reraising, but online it's quite common to see guys fall in love with their big pair even with scary flops and put their money in bad after the flop.  I've seen it a million times

The real problem is unless this guy is a nutcase  Im not putting in 900 dollars into an 8 dollar  unraised pot.
Had the  guy raised preflop and you think hes got a big pair go nuts. Col did not really mention much about how the guy played  so I have to assume an averge crappy player and not a total lunitic.
Even if he has a monster draw here you can be behind. If he has ace 5 of hearts he is actually 51% to win the hand.If he has ace 6 of hearts he is 43% to win the hand.  If he flopped the straight or a set of 3s hes 82% to win.A set of 4's and hes 90% to win, and if he flopped a set of 7''s your only real hope is a straight comes on board for a chop.Even throwing in aces as a possibility  for him where he is only 30% to win you are still so far behind his range its not even funny.

Tough hand.  I bet he had straight.  I dont see him putting all in unless he had straight or open ended and flush draw.  I would not say he outplayed you bc I think you made the right fold.  Smooth call net time and see what he does on turn.  He could have had top pair with heart draw too, but my guess is straight

Tough spot for you.. your fold is a good one here. The easiest thing to make out of this is that he could very well have low cards, because he did not raise your SB call.  With that kind of flop his hand looks very good.  I may not have been able to fold top two there, well done.
