Did I move too soon?

I was playing a live Sit N Go tournament last night and I was heads up against the chip leader.  I had around 3k in chips he had 7k.  Blinds were 200/400.  I got k,6 off as the small blind and I go all in....he of course has a,10 off and calls and wins the whole thing.  I have always heard that heads up any king is a good hand to have...I was going to be blinded away shortly and my opponent had more than a 2:1 chip advantage over me.  I was just wondering, my covers brothers...would you have pushed with the weak king?

Well hindsight is always 20/20.  In your situation, you just ran into a monster.  You are damned if you do, damned if you don't.  But playing a weak king heads up can get you hurt bad.  You did not have many chips but still could have made a better hand in that tourney.  I would not play the hand if you had more chips

depends on how many people left and positions paid.  was it 6 or 9 man.  If you fold you still have 2800 in chips in front of you plus the button, depending if theres 3 of you left.

 

BTW Ive done the same thing many a times and got burned. 

If you weren't on the bubble then it was the right move.

Sorry CincyWillie, but it gets to me with all the people you have asking how many people are left when you said in the first sentence that you were heads up with the chip leader. On to the question though, I dont think there is really anything you can do when it gets to heads up like that, sure you could fold and wait for a better ahnd, but with 2 people left the odds of getting a premium hand to push with isnt very likely, so pushing with a king is a good play

Iam thinking heads up because everyone folded to the blinds he's the small blind and chip leader is the big blind.  If it was heads up the conversation would be Iam heads up with a guy who has a 2-1 chiop lead on me.

 

I guess its in the way he phrased it.  Just like saying everyone folded to me and the raiser so were heads up.

 

Heads up in the hand or in the tourney?

 

 

If it's heads up with only you and another person 1st and 2nd and your shortstacked then it's never a bad play.  I've been known to raise it up with 72 off when I'm leading a heads up match.  It becomes more of a head fight than a card fight.   But when shortstacked 1 to 1 it's never wrong to push with any ace or any king. 

It can go either way...

   I would probably lay K6 down there with blinds at 2/400 i think K high is an ok hand HU,  but the blinds arent demanding you make that play.  I think it would have been smarter for you to lay your K down.  Or it can depend on how loose or tight the guy is that you are playing against.  If you think he is really loose and trying to take down every pot preflop in the HU then moving with a King Six was just bad luck there.

Nothing wrong with that play at all.  You're less then 10x the BB.....if you play it, you're playing it all the way pretty much.  Any K is a decent hand there.  You ended up with 2 live ones which isn't a bad thing. 

his "M" (if you've read Harrington) was only 5, so nothing wrong with that play
