"In omaha , just like in bad beat jackpots the language is "you have to use two cards"  there is absolutely no dispute"

Yes in Omaha you must use 2 cards, and often your cards don't make up the best possible hand that you could make. With the Jackpot, if you are using BOTH of your cards to make a jackpot qulifying hand, what more can you do? The only ruling that I have seen at places is that for the losing hand only the "highest" loser gets the bad beat, so a guy with quad J's gets the bad beat share over a guy with quad T's, and then they both lose to a straight flush. The only argument I really have with this situation is that many card rooms don't have all lof the details spelled out for situations like this, and then you ask a few different floor men, and they give you different answers on what would happen. It is a very far out possibility, but it does happen.

They are 2 different games.  Period.  Of course the rules will be different.

Boragta rules are BOTH cards have to play, they didn't, no jackpot.  It was completely fucking brutal, but hey, that's poker, ridiculous beats happen.

Both the guy cards didn't play to get the best 5 card hand possible, why are you even debating this.

You agree the rules are the best 5 card hand is used in Hold'em, and you agree that the guy with 7s8s didn't use both his cards to make the best 5 card hand, there is no reason for the jackpot to occur.  If you didn't know the guys 2 hole cards it would all be moot anyway becasue he would only need to show one for the best 5 card hand(have to show both obviously).

elec, since you claim that you are an expert on this, then explain how in Omaha, if the best 5 cards play, and you have to use both of your hole cards, how you can win with a straight, when you have 7,8, and the board reads 9,T,J,Q,3. He has a Q high straight, and a J high straight. I understand the rules, but if the guy CAN use both of his cards to be able to make a jackpot qualifying hand then he should be able to do so. As for the best possible hand, he has a straight flush either way, and you're just getting into minor details here. There are some places that pay the jackpot in this situation, and that is fair. For the places that don't pay, they're gonna have some pissed off people perhaps.

I don't know anything about Omaha, but I sure as shit not going to try and use Omaha rules to Texas Hold'em, or any other game for that matter.

A Jack high straight flush were 78suited plays, and a Queen high straight flush where only the 8 plays is not a "minor detail" especially when dealing with a 125k jackpot where the rule is both cards have to play.  How are you not getting that?

It's fair that they didn't have to pay the jackpot, they had the guidelines and the guidelines were not met.  Why must you keep trying to argue this ridiculous point and not understand that you are reaching.  Just stop it, you are wrong, no big deal.

Some places do pay out on the Jackpot in this situation, just a different interpretaion of things I guess. Also, the best 5 cards deal for hold 'em is meant for when kickers play and stuff like that, not for straight flushes and jackpots.

Godfather, I usually disagree with electriclady, but he is spot on.  Quit bringing Omaha into this conversation because it has nothing to do with the discussion at hand.  And quit while you are behind in the argument.  You are digging yourself a deeper hole by not acknowledging the obvious point that both cards were NOT used, and therefore, the jackpot should not and was not paid off.  It's not that hard to understand.

I sometimes go to a place that will pay the jackpot in this situation, and one of the floormen there told me why. He said that a guy has a qualifying winning hand. A straight flush. He CAN use both of his cards, on the low end of the straight flush. The fact that there is a higher straight flush available makes absolutely no difference in the result of the hand,  that the straight flush beats the quads, or loses to a higher straight flush or whatever. The odds of this happeneing though are astronomical, and he said that usually the jackpots are quads over quads, or 1 straight flush over quads. But of course if someone has a straight flush using just 1 of his cards with the other card not involved with the straight flush, no jackpot for him. '

I understand the 2 cards playing and all , but I am just pointing out that there is another point of view out there and it is a fair one. Some will cling to the "best 5 cards play", but many times that doesn't matter, if someone has way the best hand, like a set, 2 pair, top pair, it doesn't quite matter what the 5th card in the hand is, right?

I went to a strip club when I was 17, the guy let me in, does that mean I should expect other strip clubs to let me in under age?

I'm not saying they should have paid it. if they have the rules clearly stated then that's fine. if it is not clear that is messed up because the players get excited and then there is confusion. Then you may have players saying the place Welshed on paying out. If you have a jackpot qualifying hand and use both of your hole cards to form a straight flush, what more can you ask for. It is like in Omaha where you play the best 5 cards, but you also have to use 2 of your cards, so you may not play the best available hand, there is some compromise.

Best hand possible HAS to use your 2 hole cards. Its real simple.

The fact that everyone got excited or (the stupidest part) that Omaha does it that way doesnt matter. Casinos dont pay out 50K+ jackpots because "it was still a crazy hand" or "but everyone got excited thinking they won"

Chance, the casino collects the money for the jackpots, they shouldn't care if they pay it out. In fact, it's really good publicity for them. Some card rooms have far, far more money in the jackpot pool, than the current payout, and have many back-up jackpots that they will never use. So it is not really like it is money out of their pocket. If they wanted to make it really tough, they could make it Quad Kings or better beaten.

First, the rules are clearly stated from the original poster, but you don't want to listen to that, you want to bend the rules.

Second, yes you are saying they should pay it, if you say a lawyer could get them the jackpot, IMO that means you think they should pay.  The fact you bring up Omaha as a reason the players should get the jackpot, that's means you think they should pay, if you bring up "technically", that means you think they should pay, if you bring up some casinos pay it, that means you think they should pay.  There are probably another half dozen statements you have said that they should have to pay.

There is no fuking comprimise, it's TEXAS FUKING HOLD'EM, not fuking OMAHA, not Razz, not Horse, not Stud, not BJ, not Piagow, not any other fuking card game.  It's Texas Hold'em.

Also, I don't give a shit if the Casino has 2 mil for the jackpot, it doesn't meet the Jackpot requirements, end of story.  Just fade away, stop trying to argue your ridiculous side, it makes you look a lot worse.  If you just made the statement and that was it I could respect that, now, you will always be "that guy who" everytime I read another one of your posts.

Wow....those are some monster hands you have to have to get the bad beat....

Here in Detroit, All you have to have is Aces full of Jacks or better, and if it loses, the bad beat is paid out.

It was up to $150,000 ( I believe) at Motor City when it was hit at the end of December.....some nights in that place, it was a 5 hour wait for a table cause everyone wanted a chance at the bad beat.

MGM doesn't have a bad beat yet, and GreekTown is the Aces full rule, I think Motor City is the same, but don't quote me on it yet.

Chance - the fact that the guy STILL has a straight flush, and he CAN use both of his hands, still counts to some people. His straight flush still wins the hand. He can use both of his cards to make the SF. The fact that when he uses both of his hole cards to make the SF makes NO difference for the winning hand. Do you get that? This isn't like a guy with a low pocket pair getting counterfeited when 2 higher pairs are on the board, and a guy with ACE high wins, and you say , best 5 cards.

Places that will pay off jackpots in this situation aren't really concerned about this, because this is a once in a lifetime kind of thing. they say both hole cards must play though to eliminate the A-2 type of hands that can get quads but the kicker doesn't play. Sometimes you have to think outside the box though.
