Detroit_Dave, my contempt isn't for the women featured in that commercial. It's for the people who foist upon us advertising like this, who demand that we agree to salute and respect these new (and ridiculous) standards of beauty, and who are quick to declare us bad people if we complain.
That's how it used to be until a very few short years ago. Did that Target commercial look like pure capitalism to you? Capitalism took a backseat to Target's political agenda in that sickening 30-second spot. And I'm hardly only picking on Target. They're just one of many, many American companies who shrivel in the face of pressure from "progressives." Phfftt, some progress we're making.

Imagine a dude who just got released from prison after 10-15 years, let's say. Hasn't seen a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue in over a decade. Imagine him walking into a Walmart superstore on the afternoon of his release. From a distance he sees the magazine rack and the familiar SI logo with a girl on the cover, and its February and he knows it has to be the swimsuit issue! His smile is ear to ear as he gets closer, but seconds later every single customer and employee is jarred and shaken by the guttural cry of "WHAT THE FUCCCCKKKKK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!" that can be heard all over the 200,000 square foot store.
I mean, how do we explain this to him? How do keep him from re-offending so he can return to prison where the world still makes sense?
