Seriously, anyone notice that the Leafs are missing a few names up front on the roster. Very empty now ...

I think what should be noticed is that the players they traded away all at the very best 2nd or 3rd liners(I think I am being very generous here) were some of there best players.  They play hard most nights and out work alot of teams but lack skill at most spots.  Until they begin to draft better and have players in their farm they can look to for the future they will remain the same bunch of plugs.

The Leaf haters seem to be claiming that the Leafs are worse-off than they were. Perhaps this is true...perhaps not. I think EVERYONE is missing the fact that Toronto clearly wasn't going to solve ALL of their problems with 1 or 2 trades. IMO, this is a start. I mean...it's not like any team is ever going to do what Fletcher did to the Flames when he brought Gilmour over here. Those days are over.

good riddance to blakes over rated ass. kind of liked stajan though. Might shake things up a bit in toronto, they were lacking in defense and goaltending and it showed last night with all the turnovers they gave to the nucks.

Thats a good point that everyone can agree on. Both teams got what they needed right now although I'd say the Leafs gave too much from their offense. Unless Kaberle is moving out of town for a couple of forwards, the Leafs won't get better this season or later on.

First Leafs aqquire the most hated man in the history of hockey washed up Yankee Burkieeeee who aquires washed up Beauchemin who aquires washed up Giguere.  Do you guys see the pattern.  A bunch of washed up individuals.  Leafs are and always will be a joke.  I'm sorry but i know what i'm talking about.  Get over the heartache Weeble.  We all would like for them to rise up and win a cup, a division, a conference or even a game, but they wont as long as there's delusionary fans such as yourselves that support this group of fat bastards.  Dont support them, give your efforts to something that matters like your children or charity. .

You need to read more of my posts this year to know that I'm not delusional when it comes to the Leafs. I try to be objective...which is what I'm doing here. Can't really say the same about the non-Leaf fans (or haters, if you will).

You need to read more of my posts this year to know that I'm not delusional when it comes to the Leafs. I try to be objective...which is what I'm doing here. Can't really say the same about the non-Leaf fans (or haters, if you will).

WE have had enough Weeble.  I'm a defeated ex fan who worked for them at the gardens and watched their every move/game.  I wish nothing but the worst for them for the torment they put the absolute best fans in the world through.  Burke can kiss my white ass

Hey Weeble, as an objective Leafs fan, I have nothing against anyone being happy to get Phaneuf, but how can you be content with having so many empty names on the roster up front. You think the Marlies are gonna send in 3 young kids that will suddenly become impact players?

I'M not a Leaf hater but does anybody think this trade will make them even worse than they are for this year. Bruin fan here and would love to be able too get a shot at Taylor Hall. Shit we may get the top 2 picks they way we're playing.

Not content at all. I've already stated twice in this thread that it remains to be seen what the Leafs are gonna do up the middle now that Stajan is gone. Still...Burke got rid of Toskala and Blake, and got a vet to play with Gustavsson. He had to give up something to get something and like I said earlier, he wasn't going to solve everything with 1 or 2 deals.

All that said...I'm okay with things for NOW. If Burke doesn't figure out what to do next, THEN my tune might (and most likely, will) change.

Fair enough. That's a perfect assessment of the deal.

THINK about it like this. Does this trade make you any worse than you already are. Answer is NO. You will get a good look at some younger guys.

Problem is Boston is gonna have a sick draft pick

Like I said I am not a fan of Leafs but I feel I can offer a unbiased opinion.  I just cant understand dealing for 2 players that arent the answer to their problems.  Who is their 3 most skilled players?  If you answer that question honestly it should give you an idea of how far away they are from being a top tier team.

I kinda feel for Leafs fans because I cant see any other market in any other sport that would be so loyal.  IMO Burke isnt the going to turn this around they got a guy who is his own biggest fan.

Honestly Weebs, you don't have to be a Leaf hater to know this deal was one of desperation to save face after his busted playoffs promises.

You could make the case that the only people to say it is good are Leaf fans.

Phaneuff will be exposed.  His defensive game is horrible besides when he connects on a big hit or elbow.

Giguere...really?  He'll be the starter next season 100% I didn't think Burke would half admit the failure that is Jonas.

People who say Ian White is average are crazy.  Amazing value that guy, most versatile player on the team and a plus rating on a crappy squad = solid player.

Which is exactly why I'm trying to get an unbiased opinion out of someone. But let's be brutally honest...you're the last guy I'd ask for an unbiased opinion when it comes to the Leafs.

I only give the correct and accurate opinion on the Leafs.  I've never said anything that turned out to be false.

    Unbiased....that's my middle name

Like I said in my earlier thread, this deal looks good on paper, but in reality...

The Anaheim end of the deal worked out well because a) the Leafs have been in desperate need of a legitimate #1 for a few years now and Giguere gives them that (laugh if you want, but watch how quickly the Flyers would snag him if they had the cap space) and b) they manage to unload Jason Blake's contract.

The Calgary part of the deal, however, not so great. Stajan, White and Mayers are all FA at the end of the season, and it seems like Hagman was one of the most consistent contributors on the team. Instead, they take on an inconsistent Phaneuf at $6.5M for the next 4.5 years (in other words, he's going to be a Leaf for awhile, whether you like it or not).

So with all this money now tied up with defencemen and goaltending, where in the world is the scoring going to come from? Just look at the Leafs contract situation for next season, and tell me they wouldn't have been better off using that $6.5M on a #1 center like Marc Savard or a couple of 2nd and 3rd line guys.

Brian Burke panicked and/or let his ego get the better of him, and now he has barely any cap space left to work with for next season unless he unloads Komisarek and/or Kaberle. He would've been better of trading guys for picks and unloading Kaberle for some NHL ready prospects.
