Weeble - What are the Toronto radio stations saying about the deal? It is leaning one way or 50/50 on the call-in sports shows?

Haven't listened to any of the stations today. Perhaps I'll get a feel for what they're saying tomorrow. I listen to the radio when I drive in between clients. I'll keep ya posted.

I liked the trade for the Leafs. At the end of the day what they had currently wasn't working.

JSG will be a mentor for the monstor who shouldn't be playing as much as he currently is.

Toskala is very good, and should do well with less attention and Blake will do well on a team that has quite a bit of depth.

The Phaneuf trade I like also...His stock is down, Leafs are buying low on this guy, he's a competitor and will regain himself. This opens the door to Kaberle allowing the Leafs to trade him. They do have too much money tied up in their D and will move 1-2 d-men.

Step in the right direction imo. I agree this was a forced trade as the Leafs can not be in the lottery draft or Leaf fans will be irrate. Burke is planning ahead, but also giving up a tad too much to ensure they don't spiral all the way down.

I'm an ex's leaf fan. Still root for them now and again when they dont play another team I like. The deal does look good but it seems like a waste of money.

I on the other hand am not saying anything more about the deal untill i see it in action.

Do i think it means they gave up on the season, right now yes, i look for edmonton to do the same thing.

But they still have a few guys up front who can score and maybe with the extra improvement to defense, (which i don;t like pahneuf but hes better then what they had.) they can do something after the olympic break.

The trade had to be made by Calgary they had to shake things up and make room to go after Lecavalier or Kovalchuk. This deal was done for the simple fact they needed to add NHL roster players to make another deal. I don't think Sutter is done at all. The Flames are in need of a number one centre or a proven sniper! This team cannot score on a consistent basis and another thing is can Stajan win draws because the Flames are 30th in draws in the NHL that's brutal!

Stajan has only won 51.6% of his faceoffs this year so I'm not sure if he's your saviour in that category.

hope someone can answer this question.  havent really followed to much of the leafs this year. just too many other interesting things to follow in the nhl this year.  i know they signed gustavson in the offseason and he was the so called savior.  is he having a bad year? if hes not then why did they need giggy?

Oh please people, ppl who are Leaf haters will crap on the Leafs, cuz they are jealous.

Blake - Is old, too much money more like a salary dump
Toskla - Do I need to say more.
Stajan - should have been traded long ago.
Hagman - This guy was ok. They should have traded Finger or Poni.
Jamal Myers - Dead weight, and won't last in the NHL.
Ian White - Can't play defense, everytime a goal is scored this clown is always on the ice.

Ian WHite is a +1 on a team that has allowed 48 more goals than they have scored. i think you may be under estimating this guy.  very solid and capable nhl dman

i have know idea about some of you here, how can anyone say this is a bad trade for the leafs. we pretty much gave garbage away.

    lets see.....

Matt Stajan- 3rd liner at best, very soft gets knocked off the puck way  to easy. will not help calgary, maybe in the press box.

Nik Hagman- at times looks like an allstar other times looks like a 4th liner, verry streaky, plays great for 5 games and horrible for 5 games. may help calgary depending on who his linemates are.

    Jamal Mayers- BUM

Ian White- looks like a cartoon character on the ice, never liked him. hes a 6 or 7 D-man.

Vesa Toskala- 5 words to describe him, worse goalie in the league.

Jason blake- thank god he's gone.

all 6 of them wont be missed.

Dion Phaneuf- good all around D-man, great shot, he's a big upgrade to the leafs, it also gives us an option to trade one or two of our other D-man for a top forward to play with Kessel.im not a burke fan but, thumbs up to burke on this trade.

J.S Giguere- i wont say he great but he is an upgrade to Toskala

Keith Aulie- will be a stud in the future.

and were also a younger team.

i'd now love to see all 3 of our college kids playing up here now together. stallberg, bozak, hanson. ill take these 3 kids over stajan, blake, mayers and hagman

overall i'd say the leafs won both trades. Calgary will not make the playoffs now.

thanks calgary and anaheim for taking our garbage away.

I am very glad to see Blake and Stajan leave, neither of them are a top six forward except in the leafs organization.  Ian white is a bit underrated but with the leafs have far too many defencemen which is why I am hoping for this possible trade:

Kaberle, Ponikarovsky and Exelby for Vinny Lecavalier

How is Stajan and Hagman 3rd and 4th liners? Hagman has 20 goals on a brutal team and Stajan has 16 goals on a brutal team. How can they not help Calgary who has no scoring! Stajan also has 7 pp goals that's the same as Iginla so i say Stajan will help the Flames. Stajan would be the Flames 2nd leading scorer he aint going to be in the press box its not Stajan's fault the Leafs are a terrible hockey team. Remember Burke has to save face here because he gave his number one pick away to the Bruins which can turn into 2 great players for the Bruins Hall or Seguin. They do not want to give the Bruins one of those two guys would you. Burke is trying hard to get higher in the standings because you build from the draft and he already has gave great picks away for Kessel.

I'd consider Hagman a 2nd-line centre on a pile of teams. But Stajan is 3rd line at best, IMO.

i have to agree with weeble here, stajan is not a 2nd line nhl player.. the reason he has been one of the most productive leafs is because he has been a 1st or 2nd liner most of the season.

Ian White leaving is a hard pill to swallow though.  White has been fantastic this year.  I dunno how people say he is a 6th or 7th Dman.  All in all i cannot see how people say this trade was lopsided one side or another.  both teams got something they wanted ,and got rid of players they didnt.

I'm guessing you didn't hear the entire interview as you are quoting him out of context. He went on to say that he wasn't there to teach him, but hopes Gus watches him, and learns from his example.

IF STAJAN is used correctly in time out of TO. He will be close to 100 pt guy, yes laugh if you will. This kid is from Mississauga and has a lot of pressure in TO. This is the best thing for him leaving TO.

When in TO he wasn't a 100% centreman, he was used on the Wing a lot and I think that fucked him.
