The Guardians are statues  found by the [Bob] Hope Memorial Bridge.  I detest naming ANY sports team after anything immobile.  I am not happy about this, but I will eventually adjust because moping about it won't accomplish a damn thing.

One tiny positive:  the new nickname ends with "dians" which provides a microscopic bit of carryover familiarity.

My Neighbor who is a Browns/Cleveland Ohio st homer  sent me some cool pictures of those guardians on the Hope Bridge ( impressive )  ..Never knew it was built in 1932 .. He wanted Spiders and was disappointed as well

Yes, the statues are very impressive and striking, but they are stationary and immobile, not exactly a desirable association for a team sport that is so dependent on speed.

It won't affect many future posts because I have nearly always used CLV and not Indians, Browns or Cavaliers.

Hopefully the name change brings a string of world series championships....

Always rooted for CLV when the Buffalo Bisons were their triple A affiliate....Plenty of Fantastic players came through Buffalo ...Loved watching them excel in the show ...

The team, which changed its name, will no longer allow fans to wear Native American headdresses or face paint to games at FedEx Field.

The announcement was made in a statement that addresses other changes, including COVID-safe practices.

“The team is excited to welcome fans back for the 2021 season, and places the highest priority on the safety of its fans, employees, coaching staff, and players,” the statement says.

The team is recommending that unvaccinated fans wear a mask. Face coverings are optional for vaccinated guests.

The 'woke' cancel culture social justice warriors are in glee that all of these changes are going down now (they are so morally superior and civilized compared to the rest of us don't you know?)...it reminds me of the cultural revolution in China many years ago when woke mobs not only took down statues and buildings but also ended up murdering millions of people in the streets. 

Native Americans themselves themselves took no offense to the team name of 'Redskins' and some took great pride in it. It is only the butt hurt and fascist left that desires to burn it all down. 

For four years the Chinese cultural revolution raged and it damaged their economy and traditional culture and led to the estimated deaths of upwards of 20 million and don't think this could not happen here. Tempers are raging on both sides of the political spectrum as we are a nation divided upon itself and it would take very little for all of this to get out of hand especially with the monsters in power now.

 They did a survey of like 500 Natives, in one area, none of which had to even prove their heritage. That's not enough to make a blanket statement such as this. That's the problem with this whole topic. Natives have been marginalized so to the point of almost only existing as characters, figments, but not real people. Most Americans, unless you live in certain regions, will probably go their entire life's without ever seeing a native outside of a casino. Never just at the grocery store. The DMV, etc. It makes it easy to be dismissive.

The fact that so may people, who are not even Redskins fans, are you in arms over this is the real telling part. This is America, no? If a man wants to change the name of his team, that's his right. Speculating on that man's motivation is moot. Comparing "cancel culture" to what went on in China is comical.

DU, doesn't necessarily mean anything.  It costs 10 bucks to register a name so people register every name they think of to try to sell to WFT.
