Because the super bowl was on the line one of the worst calls ever in the nil

You have the beast and you put the game in Wilson's hands

Also if the pass is complete Brady gets the ball with time

I can't believe what I'm reading here. 

WITH A TIMEOUT, THE OBVIOUS THING TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE AN ABSOLUTE BEAST FOR A RB IS RUN IT ON SECOND DOWN. IF HE DOESN'T MAKE IT, TIME OUT AND YOU HAVE 2 MORE DOWNS.

Are you guys kidding me here? I can't believe the play call is being defensed. I had NE, I'm thrilled with what they did and the outcome, but come one...

"Waste" was a poor choice of words but we are talking about the call not the postgame press conference.

It wasn't wasting a play.  They still had a very good chance of scoring on 2nd.  But an incomplete pass would have left them 2 more good chances.  A failed run would have only left them 1 1/2 chances.  

Also, the probability Brady was going to get them to FG range with 50 seconds was MUCH higher than the probability with 20 seconds. Remember NE still had 2 timeouts.

You call timeout and you are forced to throw on 3rd down or you don't get a fourth down.  The Patriots know that and can defend against a pass.  Sack and the game is over.

Throw it on second and you have 3 strong chances with the Patriots forced to defend run or pass on each.

The right call doesn't always work.  I think their win probability was higher this way.  At the time, I was thinking please don't run it here.
 
lol are you serious, you must not know football at all haha. I've played & coached college football so I may not be a pro coach but I know that was a stupid play to call. It was not the right call. You just ran to the 1 and you're trying to waste time why throw it but if you are going to pass, why do a slant when you have goal line D and everybody up on the line, I can see a fade or something like that if you were going to pass but to throw a slant. They shouldn't even have passed in the first place.  They just gave it to them! Lol

You all are gamblers.  You must calculate probabilities.  I'm just curious what you thought the probabilites were.  Not just for running vs passing, but for the other 2 downs as well.  If it really was the "worst call ever",  put some numbers behind it.  I think you'll see my point when you try.

You might have a point on the kind of pass.  I hadn't really thought of that.  I felt very strongly before the play that a run was the wrong move.  I still feel strongly that is correct.  Fades have very low success rates down here, although they have lower turnover rates.  I'd have to think about whether they should have thrown a different pass.  Again 20/20 hindsight though

I should also add that the Seahawks were only 1 for 5 this ENTIRE SEASON on Marshawn run attempts from the 1 yard line.

So what rushing it would have 98% chance at success? Or is it 99%?

Stop talking in cliches and actually try to put some numbers on it.  

I think running it would have been about 70% likely to succeed while passing was only about 60%.  So running was better on that play.  The thing is that running would have significantly lowered the probability on 3rd and 4th downs. 

Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?

 I don't  really care who won the Thugs or the Cheaters , but all I know is that Pete Carroll did make Super Bowl History tonight in making the most idiotic play call I've ever seen .. Give it to the Beast ... game over .. There will some Sleepless in Seattle tonight !!

u say cliché everybody else says common sense.  u cant run 30+ seconds off the clock and then alter your play calling because of it.  the seahawks staff and russ Wilson gave the game away.  no if, and, or buts

Thats coaching by cliche.  Coaching by cliche does not work.  Without a doubt, these were the best two coaches in football.  They are that way because they coach by analysis not cliche.  

It was the right thing to do in that situation.  Period.
