Just picked up a new 2-disc complilation - Dark Was the Night, and it is solid. Put together by the Dressner brothers of The National and John Carlin of Red Hot as an AIDS awareness and benefit project it includes tracks by alot of todays best Indie acts:
The Decemberists
Yo La Tengo
Conor Oberst
Iron & Wine
Beirut
Grizzly Bear
The National
All in all there are 31 tracks between the 2 disc's. It is kind of like a sister album to the No Alternative album Red Hot released back in the 90's that included Nivana, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.
If you like the Indie music seen, pick this up it does not disappoint.

I agree that there's still some very good music to be had, but what I question is the shelf life of most of these newer artists. I thought for sure The Killers would be the next big thing, but they've sort of fizzled out. Linkin Park started out strong, but it looks like they've sort of run their course as well. You really think that Avril's got the kind of staying power? Over bands like Nickelback? I don't like Nickelback too much but they've been around longer. I don't envision Nickelback lasting much longer, either, unless they change their sound. Avril shot her load with her first two albums and if she's got staying power, the world has officially gone mad.
