By the time the pitching catches up with the hitting the outfield will be 2 years older and an average 37 years of age. Posada will be movin in on 40 yrs, Jeter and Arod will be closing in on 35 yrs. The point is they need to make serious changes now if they are going to catch take advantage of Jeter, Arod and Cano...they need to make serous moves this off season that augment their future. Holding on to Abreu, Matsui, Damon and even Cabrera does not do them well...while they are building their pitching staff they have to quickly build their outfield either through trades, the minor league system or free agency or all three...they have to make major moves in the next two years.

I just love how baseball has turned into a 2 month sport the last 2 seasons. Next year the teams that start off 2-0 will be the leaders to win the World Series.

Sparky- I'm sure most people in here aren't basing our thoughts on the Yankees purely on the first two months. I just don't think they have that great of a team with that pitching staff. Believe me, I don't get too caught up with the fast/slow starts. I don't think the D-Backs will make the playoffs and I think the Marlins finish fourth in their division, so that shows how much I think of fast starts.

The Yankees just need to rebuild right now as Pinstrips said, or at least get younger talent. I can understand having one or two experienced power guys in your lineup like Giambi, or Posado, but at least half their lineup must be at least 35 years old. They only have one good starting pitcher in my opinion, and they don't have a good bullpen outside of Joba and Mo.

If they turn it around and make the playoffs I'll be the first to bump this thread and say I was wrong, but I really can't see it happening. Yankee fans really just need to hope ownership doesn't go overboard after a bad season and start making dumb trades getting rid of guys like Cano or Hughes.

Their bullpen is pretty bad, but it is young and can still develop. Britton, Ohlendorf, Ramirez and Veras are young. But the only problem is, Ramirez is the best they have in that bullpen of the youth.(This is of course talking with Joba moving to the rotation) But he does have a 0.00 ERA in 14 innings which seems pretty impressive. Losing Bruney was a big loss with how he started. But now moving Joba to the rotation, they are in need for a new pitcher in the bullpen, which will be ANOTHER young player, possibly similar to Joba, to do what he did last season. We have to wait at least another month to see what will happen. All I know is that their bats are starting to come around, and that can be deadly no matter who is pitching.

Sparky I love your loyalty and enthusiam for the Yankees. But if the Yankees don't make the difficult, major changes to this team this season they will not win another championship for at least another decade. This aging team is melting...the train has already left the station...an agressive rebuild has to start now while they can still dump Matsui, Abreu and possibly even Damon for young talent...even Cabrera if they can...they need to cut the rope and start the process.
