although the cashman getting fired part is a bit drastic...that will not happen IMO...george is on his way out and Hank will take the reigns but that would be some serious upper mgt shuffling if he were to do that...hell complain from the pulpit just like big poppa, but not can cashman

And now the best part...Jays are even HITTING better than the Yanks this season. Jays are 18th in batting average and Yanks are 19th. Yes, that's only one spot and I expect the Yankees to finish ahead of the Jays in hitting, but their lineup isn't that great and their pitching is terrible.

The good thing for Yankee fans though is that you'll at least be in a close competition all year....with the O's for last place.

look, im not on the yankee ws train, at least in 08 because i will be in 09. But they are not finishing below tampa and toronto. Chase there is a reason that even the yanks teams of the past 2 or 3 seasons that have seemed down early have rebounded. They can play under pressure and as the calender turns to july august september they will keep  it up and tb and tor will not. It always happens and will continue. The rays are playing well right now but they have no clue how to win.

With all the poor pitching and injuries, the Yanks are still 5 games better than this time last year. They didn't past .500 until the middle of July last year. I'm pretty confident they'll be more than a handful of games above .500 by the time 7/15/08 rolls around. I think they'll make the playoffs this year.

I understand that sweeping the Mariners is not all that great of an accomplishment, but when you tack up as many runs as they did, especially against Bedard, you have to be a bit impressed and optamistic. As for Cashman, of course he made the stupid trade back in the days, but look at how it has turned out. Lowell seems to be the only guy anybody is talking about from the old Yankees' farm system. The players that weren't traded away were Pettitte, Posada, Jeter, Cano, Melky ect. and look at what they have done. I believe Cashman has done a great job as the Yankees GM because when it came down to keeping All-Stars, he has done just that. And sticking up for and not getting rid of Kennedy, Hughes, and Melky to get Santana doesn't look like it will really come back and bite them right now. I also don't think he will get fired, but I do believe he will be gone after this season on his own terms. Hank keeps talking about making changes and, just like everyone else, Cashman has probably heard enough of that.

Frankly their is already talk about Cashman not staying on next year. Go read CBS Sports.com Hank has said he Cashman will either be here next year or he won't! What appears to be very clear is that Hank is happy with Girardi!
 
This would not be a big loss to the Yankees despite what some over zealous fans might think. Cashman has never done shit for this team except do what George tells him to do. He had nothing to do with the building of this past dynasty. When he was still a baby and Lee McPhail resigned his GM slot little weeney Cashman took over the reins with no previous experience to speak of! No track record! It's like the vision of the annointed!!! Where is this man's credentials and accomplishments...he has none! Despite this blind Yankee fan mania I for one realize that this is not a very good team...it is going no where and major changes to the team and the organization have to be made before this team will ever see another championship! This is Winfield Era II. Stayed tuned as new blood is on the way!

I wasn't saying the Jays are a better hitting team because they aren't, but they are a better overall team. I was just showing the facts. The Jays are superior in everything when it comes to pitchers, whether it's starters or the bullpen, and if the Yankees want to claim to be the better overall team they must have a massive advantage in the lineup, which they haven't proved they do so far this season. Yes the Yankees had a nice series against the M's, but so did the Jays against the Royals, who are a better team and have better pitching than the M's.

I'll let the results speak for themselves this year, but we're almost a third of the way into the season and the Yankees are still in the cellar after their loss to the O's today and are likely going to be sitting 6 games out of the first place Rays after tonight.

who gives a shit about being 6 back of the rays now?? 14.5 back at this point last year and got within 1. Yankees arent worried 1 bit. I swear chase you should never be allowed to post on year because everything you seem to say is complete garbage. The DEVIL RAYS will not stay up there all year long. Yanks are just fine being a few back right now.

Yanks lost today, but you can't win every game can you? They got shutdown by a pitcher who they smacked last time, so maybe they will smack a pitcher who shut them down last time for tomorrow's game. The season is young, and just like Osirus said, they were much further back at this point last season. Posada played an extended spring training game today in Florida and will be having another game in 2 days. It's only a matter of time until he gets in the lineup in exchange for Molina and Moheller. Although Moheller works wonders with Rasner. No offense today, but expect it tomorrow.

It never ceases to amaze me what blind faith some Yankee fans have in their team. I quess I should appreciate those people who beleive in their team no matter what. Fact is the Yankees are where they will stay...around the .500 mark. This is an aging team with limited pitching. The Rays are for real my friends...they are loaded with young talent and even Longoria is started to mash! They have two aces in Shields and Kazmir and the bullpen looks very good. WAKE UP...the talent is absolutely there! The Rays are in strong contention and the Yankees are in a 3 year rebuilding project.

before we continue to compliment the rays, remember it took about 75 95+ loss seasons to finally get some young talent. I mean, if your as miserable and pathetic as they have been, your bound to get some young talent right? Still not enough depth for the rays to finish at the top

Who cares how many bad seasons the Rays had before, they still have an enormous amount of talent right now. The Rays have so much talent right now, and they still have some studs in the minors. Don't be surprised if they become the top dog soon in the AL East for quite some time. This team is good enough to make the playoffs this season, although I hope they don't so my Jays can.

And enough about "oh we came back last year so we'll do it again." No you won't. Your team has no pitching, aging hitters and ownership that won't shut up. Enjoy fourth place.

chase, you really are discounting hughes and kennedy when you talk about young talent. They are going to be good. Hughes is the youngest pitcher in the majors. Sometimes guys struggle at first. They have a nice future rotation with joba, hughes, wang,kennedy, possibly andrew brackman in a few years and maybe a free agent in the offseason.  They have arms in the minors : Alan horne, jeff marquez, scott patterson, and humberto sanchez. The cupboard is hardly bare for them. Offensively yes they have some age but cano and cabera are nice young starts. Arod will be a stud for awhile still. Jeter is jeter. Damon, giambi will be gone after this year anyways so they can replace them. Austin jackson is a very nice outfieler that made melky expendable this offseason. Not really sure about any posada or rivera replacements, but you dont replace mo anyways.

I am a diehard Yankee for decades and I don't buy anything you say Osirus13. So what if the Yankees finally have to face reality and rebuild...it has to be done. The Rays have lost for years and as a result have some of the best talent in baseball...so are we suppose to deny this obvious fact! Kennedy and Hughes are very good talents that need time to mature their game...that doesn't mean that they are going to do it this year...in fact that is a wet dream! I think the Rays have a very strong chance at capturing the Eastern Division...they certainly have an excellent chance of coming in second.
 
Either way I do believe with the hitting and pitching they have it is reasonable to assume that they will at least make the playoffs. The Yankees right now are a .500 ball club for good reason and where ever they finish they won't be playoff bound.

some fan you are pinstripes? I do feel they are rebuilding, however they can win this year although i know they arent a fav. But to dismiss the future of nyy really bothers me. And to say not trading for santana was dumb? Thats dumb to. These same people would bash the yanks if they HAD made the trade.  Im not saying you said that, just alot of people of said that on here. Im very confident in the yanks for the rest of this year and if they fail they still have a good foundation to go on.

I'm not saying Hughes will never be good because you're right, he's still very young and has tons of potential. Kennedy might turn out to be good as well, but they will not be solid, consistent starters THIS SEASON, which is what we're talking about. I also agree with you about Santana. The Yankees made the right move by not trading for him because I don't feel they would be in a situation to win this year even with him in the rotation, and they would be giving up the future.

I don't know if the Yankees will ever truly have to rebuild like most organizations like the Rays, Jays, D-Backs etc. because they always have the money to just go out and buy players in the off-season, which will pretty much always keep them competitive. This year however they do not have a very good team and play in the best division in baseball. I think Yankee fans should be able to get over one season of not competing..

And you are right, I do hate the Yankees. But I also hate the Red Sox and I'll be the first to say that they are the best team in the AL.

Just because I am a realistic fan doesn't mean I am a bad fan so don't give me shit. I probably had season tickets before you were born!

Get off the blind faith bandwagon! The Yankees organization is not clearly shaped on their future. Cashman is not a top rate GM and he has no success history to prove it! I have watched this club go up and down and sideways for over 40 years and right now they are sideways. Their core nucleus of players is Jeter, Arod and Cano...those are the only proven players who's age does not exceed 33 years. The pitching staff holds a lot of hopefuls like Kennedy, Hughes and Chamberlain. The outfield is over 35 years on average and they are all lefties who are poor fielders...and don't tell me that Melky is the answer...he's another Jerry Kinney. Damon's talents have past him and he commands one of the poorest arms in baseball! First base is a joke and the catcher's slot is aging with his best years behind him...and he is on the DL.

Pettitte mostlikely will not be here next year and frankly he doesn't look like he's worth it. Mussina is having a miraculous start with an 85 mph fast ball...that will not last! Rasner seems adequate but he is not tested. The bullpen is average at best with MO still being MO...but he is 38 years of age.

How can you make the statements you make with confidence and berate the Rays who have so much young talent. Does that make you a great Yankee fan??? Get real...the Yankees are rebuilding and they have a ways to go...and along the way it would help to dump Cashman and get a proven GM from a smaller market city who knows how to find talent, build a team and make trades that matter...like a Greg Nettles trade or a Chris Chamblis trade or a Paul O'Neil trade. Stop complaining like a spoiled baby and wake up to reality.

I totally agree with you about Santana. The Yankees do not have the team to support him and the cost of aquiring him would have been to great. To many holes to fix...by the time they are fixed Santana would start showing gray hairs.

Still early we'll be alright, I have confidence in my Yankee team. Like I mentioned above we need a starting pitcher e.g. Roy Halloway or Linecum of SF Giants AND another powerhitting outfielder. We have weakeness but our weakeness are still stronger than the strengths of our competitors in the Division save Pink Sox who we will overpower in the mid and latter part of this season...
