Kudos to him! Like I said earlier in the thread, I will give credit when credit's due. With that being said, In my opinion, I think that was a fluke, a one-hit wonder. He will be lucky to even get to half of that this season.

As a matter of fact, Prado has the best average in the NL currently. Do I think he should be a billionaire because of that? Absolutely. Not a billionaire per se, but his paycheck should increase accordingly.

A player should be paid according to how he perform on the field. If a player excels, pay him more. If he plays like crap, deduct his pay. This will lead to competitiveness in the league and increase the level of excitement for the fans which will in turn bring in more revenue for the league.

What about 2004? He had 38 Homers and 112 RBIs.

Now yes...he wasn't a real factor offensively during the World Series. Basically during the entire postseason aside from his walkoff (which is a pretty big deal). However...he ALWAYS brought his gold glove ability to the field and didn't have an error for that entire postseason. And the offense the Yankees have can pick up anyone who is slacking. But nobody could pick up his defense if he faultered and he brought that every single game in whole career.

Who said anything about his career? I did not say his whole career has been a fluke. I said it was a fluke that he led the AL in HRs and RBIs last season.

I never said anything about forgetting about previous poor seasons. I said in an earlier post that "A player should be paid according to how he perform on the field. If a player excels, pay him more. If he plays like crap, deduct his pay."

If the league had applied that "principle" in the first place, Vernon Wells would have lost quite an amount of pay during the last few poor seasons of his, probably say 3 to 5 million? Okay, so he had a great start this season. Then, simply adjust his pay accordingly. Since only 20+ games has been played, he would be paid say, 100,000+ more? That will make his current salary about 10 to 12 million.

I also said that "A player should be paid according to how he perform on the field." And so, no, Vernon Wells does not deserve to be paid 15.6 million. He should be paid in the range of 10 to 12 million as explained in the second paragraph.

I have nothing against his fielding abilities really. Everything negative that I said thus far about Mark is on his offensive production.

I keep on hearing how Mark has always been poor in April. Lets take a look. He had a batting average of between .230 to .293 from 2005 to 2008. I don't think that's poor. I call it average. He had a .200 average last April. Ok, that's poor. So, he only had one bad April in his career.

That being said, this year is the worst April in his career.

In 2009, in his first 19 games, he had 14 out of 70 hits, a .200 average, 3 home runs, 10 RBIs, 11 runs, 12 strikeouts and a .400 OBP.

This year, in his first 19 games, he had 9 out of 70 hits, a .129 average, 2 home runs, 9 RBIs, 10 runs, 17 strikeouts and a .299 OBP.

I'm confused. How can you POSSIBLY say last season was a fluke seeing that his power numbers have been 30+ Homers and 100+ RBIs for his entire career?

Luis Gonzalez had a flukey year. He hit 57 homers and had 142 RBIs in 2001 when he had 59 combined for the 2000 and 2002 seasons and had only 2 seasons in his career where he hit over 30 homers. That could be considered a fluke (or roids).

But Tex has consistantly put up those kind of numbers and to say it's was a fluke to do it again is confusing.

 

And yes...he's having the worst April of his career. What's the point? He had an awful April last season. It wasn't as bad obviously...but he certainly didn't deserve a penny of what he was given with that start either. And last season he had Jeter and Damon in front of him who had a .350 and .385 OBP respectively in April as opposed to Jeter and Johnson who have a .329 and .384 OBP respectively this season. So he also had more chances last year to get RBIs.

But you have to know this thread will be bumped all season long.

From time to time I do. It's even worse knowing that I'm having a serious discussion here trying to defend Mark Teixeira as a ballplayer. But...I do it anyway.

A-Rod actually had 6 RBIs in the WS...1 HR.

But Cano was awful. Should you take away his WS ring?

Swisher had 1 HR and 3 RBIs while hitting no higher than .150 in any postseason series. Take away his ring?

I'll tell you who you can take a World Series ring away from. Edwar Ramirez. He got a ring with 22 IP and a 5.73 ERA and wasn't even on the team post All-Star Break.

People are ignorant. However...he does have to watch his fouls (even though I know some were BS calls). But I'm cheering for the Hawks against your Magic. Knicks are first for me but who am I kidding? And yes...the Hawks WILL advance. Take tonight's game and finish it up in Milwaukee.

Stats don't lie. He's a .100 career hitter in march and a .238 career hitter in April. In his career in April he's had a worse batting average, on base percentage, hit less homers, drove in less runs, and scored less runs than any other month of his career. And you want to see the drastic disparity...

Career April Avg - .238
Next worst month - .277 in June

Career April Obp - .346
Next worst month - .371 in July

Career April Homeruns - 24
Next worst month - 39 in May

Career April Rbi's - 83
Next worst month - 119 in July

Career April Runs Scored - 95
Next worst month - 105 in June

You should do yourself a favor and let this thread die.

Howard has to watch his offensive fouls i feel. Thats where hes fucking up. Some of the defensive fouls are kind of bs. I dont mind the aggressiveness on D because hes a monster there but he needs to slow down when he has the ball. Hawks will certainly win tonight and the series. Atlanta has struggled big time the last few years against the magic though

wow it shows you really know about baseball.... first of all he lead the league in RBI last year and was tie for Homeruns.. He has never been great in April.. He chose the yankees because he knows he has a better chance of winning a world series than baltimore oh wait he already got his ring with the yankees.  also dont forget about his GOLD GLOVE. Baltimore is nt goin to win a world series in the nxt 10 yrs

Yea...I really don't expect them to beat the Magic...but I'll hope for it. And all the Hawks have to do is what the Lakers did last night. Pound the paint and they will win easily. Just like they did in Game 1 and 2.
