The 5 hole will be open all year on the diamond. If batters don't start swinging for contact(especially in a 2 strike count), hitting is still gonna look ugly.
I guess it's a matter of if/when we see a change in hitting philosophy. Things usually take a while. And remember that a lot of the players today have been taught the analytical way of hitting(launch angles, swing paths, barrel ball, bat speed, etc), from a young age.
All these "newer" hitting philosophies never promoted ball placement per se, but rather emphasis on power, angle, and exit velocity. All knowing that these hits would happen at a lower percentage, and it was still taught. Basically telling players that it's OK to fail at the plate multiple times, but when you do hit it that one time, oh boy hold on it's going to the moon.
I'm kind of interested to see how everything works out. I have no idea how it's gonna look. Could be a dumpster fire. Or does it start looking like an older brand of ball when it comes to hitting?
It will definitely still be a hard task hitting 98 to 101 mph fastballs, no matter what kind of swing you're using. That's something the "back in the day" hitters barely ever saw.

Hey what is up with Kari Lake, she was asked if she wanted to run with Trump and she replied, "I am the Governor so would not be able to be VP."
What we have yet to find out is, what is she smoking? She, and the balance of Arizona Retardlicans, still can not and will not accept the fact that Arizona is now a swing state and they can't just throw dried out old s**t at the wall and expect most of it to stick. You would think someone would be kind enough to explain to them that after importing (legally and illegally) a ton of cheap labor for forty years they should not expect to hold the high ground forever. When you look at who the Retardlican front-runners are for 2024 it is not hard to see them getting clobbered again. If you put the radical (MAGA) crowd in charge of your party you get what you deserve. After 2024 MAGA will be dead and all the leaders of it hung from tall trees with short ropes. Sanity will once again rule and the sane will be asking themselves "how did we ever let that happen?" They may also figure out that Trump, MGT, Boebert, Gaetz, McCarthy and others are not going campaigning with all their donations. Those crooks are pocketing the money and have no intention of doing anything with it politically. Well, maybe Trump, since he has millions in frivolous legal expenses just to keep his fat old arse out of jail.
Interesting statistic I ran: The 14th Congressional district in Georgia is 85% white, and 85% of those are rural rednecks, skinheads, hillbllies and neo-nazis.
.85 x .85 estimates that 72% of that district should vote for MTG, BUT, she only got 66% of the vote in 2022, which I figure indicates that 6% of that district is sane and educated. If you know anything about the history of rural education in the South, that is not surprising.
@Hoyasaxa
"Yes, thank god they outlawed idiots like Garciaparra twisting his gloves outside the box every freaking pitch."
Worse than that. Nomar would unfasten and re-strap both gloves, then make the sign of the cross, then take a deep breath and exhale slowly before he got back in the box EVERY SINGLE PITCH. The guy could turn a six pitch plate appearance into a ten minute nap..
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

According to a degenerate old retired bartender-pimp I know, the only thing I am about to kick is the bucket. We shall see, but at the moment I am still feeling pretty frisky.

If today I were to play, it would be Royals +120. Most folks will take Dunning over Lyles any day, but that is not huge difference. The game probably will not be played anyway as Maricopa county is getting a cold, nasty rain today. Even if it is played, it is not likely that either starter will go very far in this weather. Probably a quick two inning workout and get the hell outta here! Home field advantage is near zero as the Royals/Rangers share the same park. So you get to bat last? So what, by then the rookies and non-roster players are in and the manager is looking down the ramp to make sure someone iced the beer.

THats funny Key,, I have to show my old man that, he moved from Portland a few years ago to there (Summerville, GA) he just turned 80, and was able to get 20 acres and half a river for the cost of his place in Oregon. I haven't seen any Nazis there, but there are plenty of rednecks, but not a whole lot more than when we lived in Nebraska and KC as kids. I have to say its much much more sane there than poor Portland had become, talk about the inmates running the asylum.
Pitch clock... best rule change in the sport in 25 years... my jury is still out on the others, (bigger bases??? was that really a priority issue?)
Anyway I havent been on here for years,, good to see all of you still trying to stick it to the man/woman/whatever.. GL you guys

Good to see you back ice, we need all the old hands we can find around here to counter the next generation of geniuses.
Regarding Georgia: Of course your old man got a great property at a bargain basement price down there, nobody makes enough money to to inflate the cost of anything. Most folks think they are well off with a double wide trailer on rented ground and a couple rifles, along with a confederate flag of course.

Again, the words of Grantland Rice, 100 years old, prove true. "On any given day any one team can beat any other given team." Farleigh Dickenson sends Purdue home one-and-out. And people look at MLB and say "X will never beat Y, not today or any other."
There is a lesson there, handicappers. Don't think those -300 and -350 favorites CAN'T lose.
S**t happens, and it ain't necessarily a FIX.

@Hoyasaxa The 5 hole will be open all year on the diamond.
Sound points. It will be interesting to see how it works at the MLB level.

I was a Chiefs fan when you were still being nipple fed. You have only been a Chiefs fan since you flaked out on the 49ers. As for the Mets, what is new about blowing money and coming up short? Sometimes tradition just won't surrender. Like the Dodgers of the 1950's, it is always "NEXT year will be our year!"

I'd love to, but there's one small problem. I have filled my cooler with nothing this year. Haven't watched but maybe 10 minutes of spring training, and haven't read anything.
In past seasons, I'd all ready have a short but good list of no name pitchers who I thought were going to break through, or come out of nowhere per se.
Jack Flaherty, Lucas Giolito, Mathew Boyd, Pablo Lopez for example...I'm sure there are a few out there this year.
Good Luck
