Washington had a stretch where the offense was really popping, but this lineup has a completely different look right now. Wood is out, Abrams is sitting, Garcia is gone, and they’re missing some of the sticks that made that lineup dangerous.

Now they’re throwing Jackson Kent, and even when you go under the hood the numbers are ugly. The 9.39 ERA is inflated, but a 6.30 xERA, 19.5% walk rate, 39% first-pitch strikes and very little swing-and-miss tells you he hasn’t just been unlucky. Miami also stacked the lineup with right-handed bats against the rookie lefty.

Janson Junk isn’t an ace, but his 4.37 ERA is backed by a 4.20 xERA, he throws strikes and doesn’t beat himself with walks.

Feels like one of those spots where Miami can get in and out like a thief in the night. I am looking at this one

Washington has been struggling lately and the offense has gone quiet. Meanwhile, Miami has played good baseball at home and has pretty much controlled this series.

The Fish are in the better spot, at home, against a Washington club that isn’t swinging it well right now. But Junk is giving me pause
