My old man used to do this when he coached Dales' Sporting Goods, my little league team. I thought it was based on him forgetting to put our husky outfielder as close as possible to our dugout for pace of play sakes. Maybe I was wrong and he was a in game tactical genius, that I didn't appreciate.
