YES! That's it! For the first week or two, give or take, you can't handicap based on normal handicapping because what the manager is trying to accomplish in these practice games, in the beginning of ST, has nothing to do with trying to win the game. They're not even trying to gel as a team yet.

The manager and the team and the GM are not trying to win.
Yes, players are playing hard, the ones fighting for a spot -and- the superstars can take it easy if that is their thing, but if a pitcher is cruising, mowing 'em down, a manager can pull him, and will pull him because, "it's someone else's turn now".
Everything you always knew goes right out the window for the beginning of ST.

You just knew O'Neil Cruz was going to swing 3 times at 3 balls and strike out on 3 pitches. Couldn't put the ball in play with runners on 2nd & 3rd. Had to swing for the seats on every pitch - where reliever Lane was struggling to find the plate. Unbelievable

There is a reason they call it gambling. Personally, I am going to take a day off to lick my wounds and attend to another doctor appointment. Old age you get to know those people too well, and too many of them. Anyway, no avoiding it. Cheers!
