Perfect 6-0 sweep yesterday. Great start to the year.
Longwood Lancers +10.5
St. Joe has some questions to answer on their interior and I'm not sure that Sean Logan really gives you any answers. He hasn't played any real DI mins. Carey coming over from Maine is a nice player, but asking him to run a new offense with new faces and cover double digits in their opener is a big ask. Especially given that Longwood returns two guards that combined for 20 ppg last year as freshman, and many coaches will tell you, that the biggest leap for college basketball players is from freshman to sophomore year. They played a DIII team on Monday and won by 56, with six guys getting into double figures, and 12 guys getting double digit mins. Having a game under your belt isn't ever going to be a bad thing.
Northern Kentucky/South Dakota Over 162
First off, both teams have played a game already which should rid us of any jitters. Northern Kentucky played a very slow tempo team in UTEP and they still got to 160. South Dakotas coach Eric Peterson LOVES to push tempo and take early shots in possessions. They put up 95 vs a NAIA school, but that total still got to 152. The pace will certainly be there for this to hit, just going to need some shots to go down.
Santa Clara Broncos -16.5
Milwaukee lost four guards that accounted for nearly 50ppg. They now have no idea who is going to be their guy when a shot needs to be taken. That was pretty evident in their opener vs USC, where they scored 63 and lost by 32. Santa Clara took care of Towson, who is better than Milwaukee, by 19 on Monday, and they lost the rebounding battle. Sendek will get that taken care of, and I think the Broncos get a 20+ point win.
Queens/LMU Over 161.5
You don't have to look far to see why I'm playing this one. Queens just played Winthrop and won 103-98. Defense wasn't even optional in that one. There were 80 possessions! LMU wont shy away from running, especially in their opener when adrenaline is running wild. They brought in guys that have P5 experience too, so jitters don't really worry me.
St. Marys Gaels -12.5
This line is an overreaction to St. Marys OT win over Illy St. I think it should probably be around 15. North Dakota St played a DII school on Monday, and this is going to be a jump up in talent that they won't be ready for yet. Especially with the Gaels playing as poorly as they did on defense in their opener. They are going to come out with a purpose tonight, and jump on the Bison early and often.
