Olympic success is defined by greatest number of medals won.  Not by fame or difficulty of sport.  For summer, male Phelps (swimming) and female Latynina (gymnastics).  For winter, male Daenlie (skiing) and female Smetanina (skiing).

No such thing as a greatest Olympic athlete of all time,you simply can't compare athletes with the different sports they play,impossible.

the ''great global pub debate'' as everyone had different opinions.

don't forget about matt biondi and greg louganis.  if the usa had not boycotted russia olympics in 1980, louganis would have definitely had a lot more medals so who knows.
