So, this degenerate acquaintance of mine who occasionally asks me for advice and tells me his plays we'll call him Sean. He whines to me about how he got cleaned out and lost 4k to local book and had to get to his parents to pay it off for him. Somehow they felt bad and left him 300 to play with since they felt bad and he promptly lost it all and 3 different 5 team parlays. Later the next week were talking and I tell him how I just crushed a few bets and what not. I tell him I'm unloading on arizona state 2nd half vs usc and he goes ill take that bet vs you for 500. At this point I already have more than that on the 2nd half as it was and didn't think he had any money also.. I say arent you broke? And he goes now somehow there was money in my account and i bet 3k on the bears over pitt. Sounded fishy but i took his word for it. I finally gave in and let him have usc 2nd half for 400.

He lost and quickly demanded a double or nothing. He took the jets. They lost. He then demanded an even bigger bet. 1200 on the rays. I really liked texas and thought this guy was a mush so I agreed. I stated these rules though. If I win you pay in full tomorrow and same thing goes for if i lose I pay him. He says that is no problem since he just won that 3k. My bull shit radar is going off but I let it playout. The next morning I run into the bookie that he lost big to originally. I asked him about the 3k he let Sean win back and he told me that was a straight up lie. No surprise.

So when Sean asks to meet up and get paid I tell him I ran into his bookie and he told me you were full of shit about the 3k. You were trying to free roll me. Either win money and get paid or lose and not pay. He got all defensive and said he would've paid yada yada yada. I told him ok then bring the money you would've paid me if I won and Ill gladly pay you. Ofcourse that never happened. Guy cant even find someone the money to lend him for an hour haha. Burned too many bridges. He was whining for a little but after I told him off he has piped down.

This reminded me of the scene in Kingpin where they bet in bowling big stakes and wrap a 100 around monopoly money and get caught. Would you guys even consider paying someone like this?

An acquaintance?  That tried to free roll you?  No way he gets paid.

Tell the loser to get lost.  You don't need people like that in your life.

You agreed and lost.  Pay the man.  Your fault for taking a dumb bet to begin with and can't assume he wouldn't pay you.  You should never take bets with friends or people you know because even if you win they will hate you.  It's like playing poker with your friends nobody wins.

Mess stop putting yourself in bad spots.  Best not to even talk about your bets with people you know because secretly they will hope you lose even your friends.  Only a real friend and you will be lucky if you have five won't root against you.  Chalk it up as another lesson learned.

not a close friend at all. Just a known degenerate who was a few classes ahead of me in highschool. Guy is a huge mush. He facebook messages me telling me his plays sometimes and i usually tell him how I think they all suck. When he lost 4k to the bookies he fired out like 10 4 team nfl parlays as his bets only

I'm going to venture the guess that you didn't just "run into" his bookie.

It's kinda your fault for even taking that action in the first place. Shoulda just bet him the bar tab or something more friendly.

I'm going to venture the guess that you didn't just "run into" his bookie.

It's kinda your fault for even taking that action in the first place. Shoulda just bet him the bar tab or something more friendly.

well I also use that bookie on occasion. Out of curiosity I asked him the deal and he informed me of the truth this morning when i decided to follow up on my hunch. I tried calling him the night before and couldn't reach him which would've helped avoid the whole situation to begin with.....

Also, we had planned to bet on the pitt game tonight. I had pirates he had reds to get us back to even if i won. I think I'll send him a 100$ free play at 5dimes to fack around with and end it at that if my plays hit tonight. If pirates and blackhawks come thru I'm in store for a huge night

You took the bets from him basically "knowing" he couldn't or wouldn't pay,now that you lost you are finding excuses not to pay him. Kinda sounds like you did to him what you are accussing him of doing. You win you wanna get paid, you lose you look for reasons not to pay. Pay him his money and then never deal with him again. Sounds like you can get him out of your life for $320,money well spent. No reason for you to take the bets if you felt like it was a lose/lose situation for you.

Why didn't you include this in your original post?

This is what your original post said:   I stated these rules though. If I win you pay in full tomorrow and same thing goes for if i lose I pay him.

There is no mention of him being required to prove that he had the money to pay you if you would have won before he would get paid.

    1. You made a bet with a loser who likely didn't have the money to pay.
    2. You kept letting him off the hook....the rules should have been laid out before you started.  Was there any doubt this loser was going to continue to bet you until he won?
    3. WTF is wrong with his parents?  They pay off his gambling debt and give him a few extra bucks to gamble with?

I honestly can't tell who behaved more like an idiot in this scenario....you or him.  Pay the guy.  You opened the door and he just waltzed right in.  You're the one who let this guy take advantage of you.

I wanted to believe him. I thought there was a small chance he actually did win the 3k back from the bookies on the bears. I found out the next day after he swore he would be able to pay if he lost that he was lying. I called him out on the lie and said I'll pay you if you bring the money you would've had to pay me if you lost ( bc who knows maybe he had other ways to pay) . I don't think that's unreasonable. No one is pulling an Big Ern McCracken and free rolling me and getting away with it (insert dikembe mutombo finger emicoton that vanished?)

i had 500 on the pirates vs him also. I blew up on him before the game started so it's not like things would've gone much differently. He wouldve been even and back to searching for someone else to take his monopoly bets. He may be giving blowies in exchange for parlays at this moment.....

You bet and lost. IMO you should pay him. Whether or not he had the money to pay you is not an issue once the bet is made. That is something you should of considered prior to making the bet. It is your fault for putting yourself in that position in the first place.

Bottom line is you bet and you lost. Everything else is not relevant.

Again -- who cares if he had the money or not? At that point why does he need to show you the money that he does not owe you? You should of asked him this question prior to agreeing on the bet.

Yeah I think you got yourself in a mess here Mess, no pun intended. You booked the bet and should pay it. If you were worried in any way about his ability to pay if he loses, then dont book the bet.

You took the risk, you lost. You should be a man of your word and pay the man.

that is extremely weak man. His lies make no difference at all. You continued to bet as opposed to call him out and make him pay up. Then it becomes an issue when you lost. Too late.

As someone pointed out already, you are doing exactly what you feel he was doing to you.
