However, to sit there with a house pointed at a burning house and only spray water on the tree so it doesn't catch on fire seems a little out there.

A "little out there" is an under statement.  It is such a ridiculous concept that it seems like it would be in a SNL skit or some type of comedy movie plot.

you are missing the point.  what if the firefighters were fighting the fire at the mans house who didnt pay and a 2nd fire started somewhere else.  and during the time it takes to get ppl out of the house, pack up everything and leave, the 2nd house fire was beyond control and the house was destroyed.  you dont think that would be a problem?????

So what does one do when theyre in combat and an order is given by  an  offficer that puts  his men grave danger ?? The call is just as, if not even more  perilous as the fire..maybe worse?

In Vietnam we had many a life saved by brave soldiers who disobeyed such orders and paid with the sacrifice of their own..One who did live said the risk was worth the sacrifice !!!!!!!

What if jerkoff firefighters are playing pocket pool and a gas main explodes and wipes out half a neighborhood because they allowed the fire to rage on longer than it should have?

Wouldn't there be a problem?

See what I did there?  I can throw out "million to one" what ifs too.

of course it would be a problem.  But it is a better solution than to just ignore the one fire in the off chance that another broke out else where across town.

For that matter what would they do if two houses were on fire at the same time in different places but each paid the fee?  I am sure they have considered these things.

Lmfao, I wonder how often this has happened and if there ever was a typo in the firehouse computers where maybe someone DID pay the fee, but the dispatcher fucked up and saw it wrong and they let a house burn down?

I’m not a firefighter. I’m just a person who took the time to look at the long term implications instead of posting the gut reaction of “OH MY GOD WHY DIDN’T THOSE ASSHOLES PUT OUT THAT POOR MAN’S FIRE?!?!?!?!?!?!?”

Mazn some of you just dont get it.  If the firefighters had a direct order not to put the fire out, then they had to follow those orders and let the people who make those orders take the blame.  You cant expect another human being to risk everything in his life, when hes told not to.

If a firefighter would have gotton hurt or killed in that fire after refusing a direct order you can bet your ass that firefighter would not be getting any benefits paid.  But fuck the firefighter, he should do this anyways, even thou the home owner didnt give a shit enough about his own property to pay the fee.

Things in life arent free, but thats what some of you believe. Services cost money, this guy didnt want to pay for that service.  Its his own fault.

If everybody did that, then there would be no money to even have a fire service and we wouldnt be having this talk now.

But go ahead keep blaming the firefighters.  They should have thrown their whole lives away for one dumb ass.

Why dont some of you guys disobey a direct order at your jobs and see if you still work there.  Try stoping a bank robber at a bank holdup and see if you have a job the next day.

It was posted by me bsforsale...the one that stood out for me was the $500 per 911 call that is charged for each occurrence. So in this case I wonder if the guy will owe $500 for the call he made.

I agree...it's not the firefighters I have a problem with, but rather the one that gave the direction to not put it out....I'm sure we all know those firefighters wanted to put that fire out....

But CD, what's your take on the fact that this household has remitted the $75 year after year, but for some reason this year it slipped through and was not paid. In addition, if this was really true, what about the mans plea that he would pay anything when the firefighters were on scene.

The firefighters are the only ones who can answer the question as to why they didnt "bust a move"..and risk whatever ?

I was given an order to not do a pick up.. one last touch down in a chopper I was flying and return at once ...but we took a vote "crew" and went in anyway...my copilot got hit ..but we saved 3 more lives on the ground..we were aware that we would have to answer for this or I would without doubt...however,everyone of my men said..." IT WAS WORTH THE RISK "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no, I am being serious. in the interview they said it took the fire 2 hours to spread to their house. why didn't they get their pets out during that 2 hour timeframe? I would have got as much shit out as I could in that time.

There is no excuse or explanation for why the owners did this.  They are obviously at fault for acting reckless.  Likewise, for not paying the taxes.  But the discussion going on in this thread is -- why did the fire fighters choose to be spectators instead of being firemen?  Or I guess the better question is what kind of policy makers put a policy in place where an entire house can go up into flames just to prove a point?  If it was not real it would be absolutely comical to imagine that something like this could take place.

This is a house.  There are animals, possessions, memories etc. in the house.  We are not talking about a wooden shed, or a child's wagon, or a swing set etc...  We are talking about a house.
