    Chile vs Australia:

Two sides that play extremely attacking.  Shocked to see the over at +money.  Simply put this is probably going to be one of the best bets I will make this tournament.  Though I do not see it crushing the total, I would be shocked to see anything less than 3.

Plays coming for other 2 games today.  Regretfully didn't play Columbia and for this match I was leaning draw/under.

    Italy vs England:

It will be hot and humid in Manaus for this guy of a match.  Though I am Italian, I love England in this match.  Italy are highly tactical (Prandelli is world class) and have a wealth of options in attack, but it is their shaky defense that will let them down.  England are strong enough in defense given this being the opener and in humid whether.  I can see this being a very physical match with the ball often in the midfield.  Do not see very much chances, but I do think England are overall a better side by a slight margin.  The loss of Buffon is not huge but definitely notable.  I will isolate Italy as I see a 2-0 England win but would not be surprised to see a 0-0 or 1-1 match.

    Draw (+206)
    *England (+170)

*Signifies a play is risking TWO units.

    Ivory Coast vs Japan:

This one will be exciting as both teams will look to take a firm hold of an advancing position.  The Ivorians are talented throughout but lack fluidity in attack and can be shaky at the back.  Against a small Japan side I think there strength keeps them in it.  Japan are quick and move the ball beautifully.  Speedy in attack and good enough defensively as they bring players back, I think Japan win this one comfortably, 2-1 or more.

    *Japan (+172)

    Ivory Coast vs Japan:

This one will be exciting as both teams will look to take a firm hold of an advancing position.  The Ivorians are talented throughout but lack fluidity in attack and can be shaky at the back.  Against a small Japan side I think there strength keeps them in it.  Japan are quick and move the ball beautifully.  Speedy in attack and good enough defensively as they bring players back, I think Japan win this one comfortably, 2-1 or more.

    *Japan (+172)

    Draw (+206) 1.00

    France vs Honduras:

Stronger in every position, coming off an 8-0 friendly win and knowing they need 3 points, expect the French to fire on all cylinders.  Honduras will sit back and occasionally stop them, but all in all this will be a dominant France win (3-0)

    Argentina vs Bosnia-Herzogovina:

Finally we get to see Argentina and their world class attackers!  Bosnia are no slouches either and as this being the opener I think it will be a surprisingly close and low-scoring game.  The line is really reflective of Argentina's low odds of winning the whole thing (+400).  Bosnia are solid defensively and though I am unsure they qualify I can see this one being close throughout.  1-0 Argentina is my prediction.

    Germany vs Portugal:

Painfully, I will be backing "The Team".  I am highly fond of Portugal and could see this as a draw, but at +money Germany is a steal.  Germany will play highly attacking and Portugal will counter attack.  I think both backlines are solid with the Germans an advantage in the middle of the field and Portugal up top.  Hard to say if this will go over or under, but I think Germany has to be played because of the midfield advantage and their long history of success in opening matches.

    Nigeria vs Iran:

Eyed this one out a week or so ago as my favourite opening fixture in terms of betting value.  Iran are extremely defensive and will counter, but not for the first 60 minutes or so...  Nigeria are not going to know what to do with the possession they will have and will struggle to break down the stingy Iranians.  This match may end 0-0 as it will be physical and with few talented attackers and tactically will favour a defensive clunker.  Could see Iran stealing it late 1-0, but confident Nigeria do not win (Could see Nigeria beating Bosnia as they will be more comfortable counter-attacking).

    Ghana vs USA:

Should be a close match-up that I see going 2-1 either way.  Tight game with the edge in midfield going to the US, slight edge on defense to Ghana as well as up front.  Overall as close as can be, but both sides will go for the win so I do not see a draw.  USA is in a good place mentally as Klinsmen has crushed all egos in downplaying the team's chances in the tournament as well as leaving Donovan at home.  Should be a physical match with a good chance of the goals being on set-pieces.  With the advantage in the midfield and boasting a well-balanced and prepared squad, I like the USA as an underdog.

I will update my record after the USA game. One play for tomorrow:

    South Korea vs Russia:

Korea are a weak side and I will be surprised if they win, but Russia are nothing special themselves.  The loss of their captain is critical and they lack the typical class in midfield that Russian teams have.  Defensively they are pretty good, but I think they will struggle mightily in this tournament to score goals.  Personally I feel strongly that Korea can score on the counter and Russia may score on a set piece.  Confident this ends in a draw and as I see it being low-scoring, but not scoreless, I will play a longshot on the exact score and patiently await Thursday's matches.
