I will be doing a rather large write up that will last throughout the week. First off, a few numbers:
These are rankings in the SEC:
Scoring offense 3. Auburn 34 points per game 4. Alabama 32.2 points per game
Scoring defense 2. Alabama 9.9 points per game 12. Auburn 27 points per game Total offense 3. Auburn 441.5 yards per game 4. Alabama 418 yards per game
Total defense 1. Alabama 225 yards per game 9. Auburn 359.2 yards per game
Rushing offense 2. Alabama 225.6 yards per game 3. Auburn 219.5 yards per game
Rushing defense 1. Alabama 70.4 yards per game 10. Auburn 169.7 yards per game
Pass offense 4. Auburn 221.9 yards per game 8. Alabama 192.4 yards per game
Pass defense 2. Alabama 154.6 yards per game 9. Auburn 189.3 yards per game
Red zone offense 2. Auburn 33-35 scores (25 TDs) 6. Alabama 38-44 scores (19 TDs)
Red zone defense 1. Alabama 13-19 scores 12. Auburn 37-39 scores
No matter what, I am an Auburn man and I hate Alabama. I'll be back later.
War Damn!

Alabama - A National Championship, or at least a chance. Beat Auburn and beat Florida and play Texas. Lose to Auburn and beat Florida, screw the SEC and and play on New Years Day and get rolled by a Utah 'because they wanted to be there and we didn't'.
Auburn - A season. To heavy? I think not. Auburn was picked to finish 5 in the West, only ahead of MSU. Vegas had AU O/U on wins at 7.5. So, with 2 games left, it is within reach. Most fans, before a 5-0 start, expected 6-6 or 5-7. So how is this 'the season' for Auburn? Because no one is giving them a shot. No. One. Auburn can knock Bama back down to earth, ruibn their season, make their own season ect. When Tubs was HC, you did not want to play AU when they were an underdog, I don't know what his SU win percentage as an underdog but I do know it was good. HCGC worked under Tubs. Maybe he can draw from that experience.
I think motovation will not be a problem for either team.
More to come..

What is in it for both teams?

For you non Auburn/Alabama fans, The First Time Ever refers to the 1989 Iron Bowl, when Alabama first made the trip doen to the Plains. Alabama was undefeated and ranked #2. Auburn had two losses (FSU and UT, I think. I was only 3). This was big. Alabama HC Ray Perkins siad that "it wouldn't happen" (Alabama going to Auburn). Pat Dy made it happen. I am a believer in things setting up just right and I think Auburn can draw from history here.

Alabama hasn't allowed a 100 yard rusher all year.
Averaging allowing 70 y/gm
Tate is averaging 109/gm
Nice Info Trackem but I have yet to see any AU fan or anyone for that matter give any solid reason AU can stay within this number.. The only things I see is 1989, this can make AU's season, AU home underdog, anything can happen... I am have been looking for an edge for AU but honestly I can not find one.. Not one.. Oh and Alabama has not allowed a 100 yard rusher in 34 straight games.. Keep the info and thoughts coming Trackem..
Oh and in my eyes AU's chances lay in Tate's hand.... If he can get the running game going AU will have a chance.. That will be the only way though, because without the running game, which is what AU does, the passing game will never amount to anything... So IMO Tate is the key to AU's success and we will see if his comment he made about being the best back in the SEC....

I have seen the total as 47...i was expecting about 54
Ok, so how does Auburn win/keep it within the line? Alabama has only had one close game, Tennessee (if UT had a kicker, it would be the only loss for Bama). What did Tennessee do to keep it close? Mark Ingram had 99 yards on 18 carries. He had a long run of 25 yards. Oh, well then Richardson must have gotten a lot of yards. No. He had 8 carries for 18 yards. So, to answer the question, UT shut down the running game. They forced McElroy to throw the ball. He was 18/29 120 yards, 0 ints or TDs. Alabama had 256 total yards, by far their fewest. If Auburn can slow the running game down, they will have a chance.
Auburn is 86 th in rushing D....let that sink in.
They average giving up 4.4 yards/rush and 170 y/game.
Auburn gave up 221 rushing yards to Arkansas (L), 282 to UK (L), 122 to LSU (L), and 169 to UGA (L). I think the magic number for Auburn is 150. IF they can keep Ingram and Richardson below 150, they have a chance. One BIG factor in slowing doen the rushing attack is Eltoro Freeman.
From al.com: Auburn is hoping linebacker Eltoro Freeman can bounce back from a bad ankle in the next few practices, and coach Gene Chizik says he's hoping an off weekend will pay dividends for his Tigers in Friday's game against Alabama.
Those were some of the highlights from Chizik's weekly Sunday meeting with the media.
Chizik said Freeman has made "some good gains" in the last few days as he tries to come back from the injury he suffered against Georgia.
"We'll see how he does tonight,'' Chizik said. "He's day-to-day."
If he plays, Auburn might can slow the run enough to force McElroy to throw the ball. I'll take my chances with AU's thin D backfield over Ingram.

What can Auburn do when they have the ball to win/cover?
Alabama has only seen one 'no huddle' O this year, LSU. LSU did it as a wrinkle. Bama will be expecting it from AU. The AU offense is by far the 'strong' point for the team. If this turns into a shoot out, I like the Tigers chances. Like koko said, it is all on Tate. He is a man (but not 40. anyone catch that?). He loves contact but can get the corner too. He has something to prove after his comment about being the best back in the state. What better time than against Ingram? McCalebb should also be back and damn near 100%. Auburn will need his speed. I expect all the tricks to be on the table Friday. Hopefully, Burns will not be the only 'Wildcat" "QB". Fannin has practiced there, so I'm told. Also, I talked to a starting O lineman Tuesday. He siad the D says to score 21 and we win. I say that is bullshit. It will take 29, inHo.

Auburn had a week off last week and no classes this week. Alabama had a scrimmage last week and has had class this week. Auburn is coming into this game with nothing to lose. Alabama has everything to lose. Auburn doesn't have to worry about 'showing too much' to their next opponent. Alabama needs some suprises to beat Florida.
I really love how this sets up like 1989. Really.I know it doesn't have an affect on the game, but it would make one helluva story.
One last intangable: There will be a flyover. Auburn is somewhere near 18,752,234-0 when there is a flyover. No but really, nothing gets the crowd more into a game than that. This will be the loudest game for Bama by far for the year. Where has Bama played on the road? MSU, UK and Ole Miss. The biggest crowd, I'd assume, was Ole Miss 60,580. That is only about 25k less than the Auburn fan that will be there.
