why are they igniting another race issue after Vandy fired a winless coach who happens to be black? lack of diversity because only 10% of FBS coaches are black. i dont get the purpose of this article. how are they quantifying that there are suitable and competent black football coaches that are not getting fair chance as a HC? how are they certain these black coaches are better equipped than white coaches? then how about adding hispanic and asian HC to balance HC diversity? first sex equality stunt with vandy female kicker, now reigniting race issue. espn sucks

Fact of the matter is most ADs are white men, most boosters are white men, and they feel more comfortable with another white man coaching. Blacks rarely get a second chance at a coaching job. White men can f-ck up royally and get 2nd and 3rd chances.

75% of players are black.

What Thorpe said sums it up but coming from ESPN, it's more about throwing gasoline on a fire than having an actual conversation about the issue. Media outlets, especially cable news and fringe social media content creators, are there to sell a product. And that product is no longer news, it's discontent. ESPN is one of the most egregious. I'm pretty much sworn off all cable news, both traditional and sports based. Fox is slightly better but I can't stand Skip Bayless. Uncle Shan is hilarious though.
TIME TO BRING BACK THE OBAMA CAGES!

Seems there are always articles about it when a black coach gets fired because it gets clicks. In this day/age, I believe most programs will hire the person they believe can get them wins. But the climb up the coaching ladder is tough, & there are only so many HC jobs available in any given year.

Bingo....intelligent conversations don't sell, gas fires do....if they had started an intelligent conversation on the matter this thread wouldn't exist

What about alumni, donors, fan base? There is a big element of financial marketing to this
Of course, are restaurants wrong to hire only hot blond chicks (many under-qualified)_because they bring in the most revenue?... Liberals would say "yes" but I'd "we live in the real world"

@jimrockford22 I don't think you ever satisfy everyone, no matter who you hire..........unless they turn out to be a winner.
I agree... Well said :)
Look at Tennessee and Greg Schiano... Nothing to do with blacks.... But talk about ignorant outside interference..
In football forums I've seen comments about how mediocre Schiavo/tedford records were at Rutgers/Cal... Probably 2 of the greatest coaching reigns ever. Cal was 1 last second play from being ranked #1 in nation

BSPN has been dead for at least 15 years to me. They pretty much have to manufacture news at this point. I wasn't a fan of the fake debates Skip and Steve used to have. I mean come on, you just happen to disagree on literally every topic across all sports? Yeah right. Then they were trying to manufacture their own stars after Jordan retired. Jeremy Lin, Tim Tebow, etc. Those guys had some potential but they weren't the next coming like bspn was portraying it.
Other than when I'm at the casino, I haven't watched espn "news" for almost half my life now.
Anyways on this current topic, if a coach has lost to team or they have garbage recruiting, training, etc, you have to cut him loose. I don't care if it's this Vanderbilt guy or freaking Bill Belicheat. Making the issue about anything else is ridiculous. That program needs a reset, clear as day to anyone with a pulse. If the next guy comes in and he is or is not a minority, but arrives with a solid plan to execute. Great let's see how it goes.
I never like it when a company or program says "We have to have X% of xRace" When I used to work at a bank, all the corporate meetings, the middle managers would be whining because at the end of the year minoritie's only made a 2% gain on upper management positions in the company. I'm sitting there as a black guy rolling my eyes. All the public relations talk about diversity is meaningless when you have dudes who work the same position 30-40 years.
Anyways here is a fun video that goes into bspn.

true, lol... but espn is pushing race and diversity agenda, so it is only right to include hispanic and asian race to make their argument more consistent.

Is ESPN maximizing ratings/revenue with 24/7 SJW and SAS?
Are black people that much of their audience? Not even sure black men are that SJW... White women are the core of SJW, I think. They don't watch ESPN
I think about the ESPN stuff alot... I think I'm pretty liberal socially but I don't need to be hammered with it day after day. And bizarre issues like trans-gender pronouns that 1 in 10k people actually use (EDIT not ESPN on this one)

it's simple. the powers that be do not want to see black coaches succeed nor do they want to make available a path for them to succeed. they just need black athletes and their mandingo strength on the field. c'mon now, we're not that far removed from the time when black athletes couldn't even suit up with white athletes. i know a black assistant coach in D-II who says when he attends fundraisers with alumni and boosters, he tries to leave before the alcohol starts flowing and the n-word starts flying.

It's just to manufacture outrage and discontent like others have said above me. We live in the "Clicks" age of journalism and it doesn't just apply to ESPN. Sadly, people actually buy into the BS
