Star QB Mateer is OUT for SOONERS for 4 weeks!
Sophmore Michael Hawkins Jr. will start Oct 4 vs weakass Kent state which will serve as a live action tune up for Hawkins to prepare for TEXAS the week after.

@JJWoods
Congrats on your CFB picks to date!
According to Phil Steele's mag HAWKINS is rated VERY HIGHLY.
Started 4 games last year as a true frosh and he's mobile with decent numbers! His first start was a ROAD WIN at Auburn! Played quite well in the Armed Forces Bowl against a very good NAVY squad! He's played only sparingly so far this season due to being behind MATEER, but his numbers are still quite decent. He won't be the proverbial "deer caught in the headlights" .... and he has had 2 weeks to prepare for his first start this year (which will be next week at home vs weakass Kent State [already a very heavy underdog over +40 pts] Then they have another week to prepare him for TEXAS (in Dallas, not Austin) A 4-star recruit from his high school which is in a suburb city only 30 mins from the Cotton Bowl so I presume he will have a bunch of fans there cheering him on...
The next 4 games are the young sophomore's big opportunity to make the next step in his career! But after weakass KENT, 6 of the SOONER'S last 7 games are against opps currently ranked in the TOP 20!
Of course he will flourish vs Kent in a huge rout. But I suspect this impressive young fella (age 20 next month) will play better than many might forecast and at least keep the game vs Texas very close... After Texas he is projected to start @South Carolina before returning home to face Ole Miss...
Barring injury to him OR key offensive starters, I am anticipating performance stats only a very slight dropoff from Mateer...and possibly no dropoff at all...

INJURY REPORT!
Star QB for Syracuse OUT for the season (if you didn't already know) which is why they are significant underdogs at home albeit vs a slightly weaker DUKE team....

Heavy lean to Houston tonight *BUT* not at the current spread or ML!
Even the alt-line is a bit heavy for this game, so I am going to lurk the game hoping to see good play by the Cougars but for the lines to drop, either as a result of no scoring in the 1Q or because OSU may score first.... either way the line would drop and hopefully into my range....but all VERY dependent on watching Houston otherwise playing well FIRST!!! Even a much lower line is no good if Houston is having a bad game...

I like this previously unknown QB in Mississippi, CHAMBLISS (SR, formerly from Ferris State, Div 2) who is the backup to Simmons (still has a tender ankle)
Chambliss got in a handful of snaps in the first two games (which Simmons started) and did OK...After Simmons went down with an ankle boo-boo, Chambliss started the last two....In those two starts (vs ARK and vs Tulane) this dude passed for a combined 670 yards and dashed for 174 himself!! He's a bonafide dual threat!
As a junior last yr, Chambliss threw for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushed for 1,019 yards with 25 touchdowns! - leading Ferris State to a Div 2 national championship. In the TITLE game against Valdosta State, he combined for five touchdowns in the 49–14 rout. Chambliss was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy. -Wikipedia
I have LSU and Ole Miss rated DEAD EVEN! Rebs are at home, which would normally assume a HFA of around -2.5 to -3.5...but it's only -1.5 for the homies. In Chambliss's two starts (Ark and Tulane) those two clubs featured tough dual threat QBs themselves. In the Arkansas game, both defenses struggled to contain the opposing dual-threat QB, but Ole Miss prevailed. In the next game, Tulane's dual-threat QB also ran very well against the Ole Miss D but Ole Miss shut down everything else as their defense clearly improved against an opponent similar to Arkansas and routed them 37 - 10. Now their defense steps up in class to face a very tough LSU offense - with one exception - LSU Nussmeier is NOT a dual threat. Not even close! One less thing for the Ole Miss D to worry about...
As for LSU, their 2 toughest opponents were Clemson and Florida, both of whom are NOW rated roughly in the same tier as the two teams Chambliss et al just defeated (Ark and Tulane). In fact, at home against "not so great as we thought" Florida, LSU achieved ONLY 10 first downs on 12 drives (compared to 23 for Gators) and needed a very fortunate +4 net turnovers to edge Florida, including a gimme TD from the 6 yd line after one of those.
LSU defense has not had to face a dual-threat QB yet...

But an impressive drive for VA off that really LUCKY BREAK ...

But finally the better team gets back ONE of those 2 turnovers from VA...
One more to go to even things out

And the SEMINOLES just got it.....and that's regardless the outcome from that INT...

OK!
However, no guarantees the better team will win...VA might get really lucky again... I suspect they have a 60% chance of tying the game before late 3rdQ...
