If you’re a college football betting fan, you’ve probably told a dad joke or two in your life. They can be funny! They can embarrass your wife! They can motivate your children to find a lawyer who will file for legal separation on their behalf.
Still, no matter how brilliant you might be at your own college football picks, there are some dad jokes that should never be told. Like seeing a matchup between BYU and Houston on the schedule and proclaiming, “I’m betting on the Cougars!” WINK, WINK.

BYU Cougars vs Houston Cougars betting preview
Weather
We’re going to get some pretty solid football weather on Friday in Houston. If you just happen to be attending the game, make sure dad is wearing that ratty football pullover that doesn’t even have the updated team logo on it. Expect a high of 52 with wind out of the southeast at 7 mph and no rain. Be sure to monitor the gametime conditions with our NCAA football weather info.

Against the spread (ATS) pick
BYU is one of the hottest teams in the country and has rocketed up to No. 15 in the AP poll, thanks to all-everything quarterback Zach Wilson. He’s off to a terrific start this season, throwing for more than 1,200 yards to go along with eight touchdowns and only one interception. He’s also got a couple of dangerous receivers in Dax Milne and Gunner Romney.
The Cougars from H-Town just need to put the ball in the hands of Marquez Stevenson. In Houston’s 49-31 season-opening win against Tulane, the senior receiver caught a 41-yard touchdown pass and scored on a 97-yard kickoff return. He’ll be the most dangerous player on the field.
While BYU’s perfect start included three straight blowouts, the team returned to Earth by escaping with a 27-20 victory against UTSA last Saturday. Houston will have to clean up some things after committing five turnovers against Tulane, and I believe that’s exactly what the Cougars will do. I’ll grab the points with Dana Holgerson’s bunch.
PREDICTION: Houston +4.5 (-110)
Over/Under pick
The total in this game moved quickly in the Over’s direction, and it’s pretty easy to see why.
Between them, these two teams average more than 1,000 yards per game, so expect a Texas-sized shootout with each team scoring in the 30s.
PREDICTION: Over 63 (-110)
Team total pick
Once Houston shook off the rust against the Green Wave, its offense really got going, putting up 28 points in the second half.
The Cougars should do a better job of protecting the football and lighting up the scoreboard, but they’re going to be helpless against preventing any dad jokes.
PREDICTION: Houston team total Over 29.5 (-114)
