It has been a surprising start to the 2025 CFL season for both the Ottawa Redblacks and Calgary Stampeders for different reasons, and they will collide on Saturday in Week 3.
The Redblacks are 0-2 after getting smoked by the Montreal Allouettes, 39-18, last week. Meanwhile, the Stampeders are 2-0 with two double-digit victories after winning 29-19 on the road against the Toronto Argonauts.
My Redblacks vs Stampeders prediction and free CFL picks see the early surprising starts for each team to continue for another week.
Redblacks vs Stampeders prediction
My Redblacks vs Stampeders pick: Stampeders -2.5 (-110 at BET99)
It has been a rough start to the season for the Ottawa Redblacks, having to face three teams that are all currently 2-0 on the season. They played well to come back in the opener on the road, but still lost by five to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. They got trounced from start to finish last week.
The Calgary Stampeders have yet to trail by more than one point this season. This could be bad news for the Redblacks if they fall down early again. They will once again be without quarterback Dru Brown and will be starting Dustin Crum after Matthew Shiltz threw three interceptions last week. They're also without three offensive linemen due to injury.
The Stampeders' defense has been excellent this season, ranking third in the CFL in both total yards and points allowed. They will be without leading tackler Marquel Lee, but the secondary has been a huge reason for their stout defense, and they will be healthy. Adrian Greene has two interceptions this season and will be looking for more against Crum.
The Stampeders' offense has been very balanced between quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. and running back Dedric Mills. Adams Jr. doesn’t have a single passing touchdown yet, but he is second in the league in passing yards. Mills is second in rushing yards and leads the league with four touchdowns on the ground.
It is going to be rough sledding for the Redblacks' offense through the air, and they lack a strong ground game. They will also struggle to stop the Stampeders from picking up yards and controlling possession. This could be a third straight double-digit victory for Calgary to start the season.
Redblacks vs Stampeders same-game parlay (SGP)
To go with our best bet on the Stampeders to cover, I am going to take the Under. The Redblacks have relied heavily on the second half to get any scoring in their two games. The Stampeders have only allowed 13 points combined in the first half of their two games.
This could easily be a single digit to low teens total for the Redblacks entering the 4th quarter. They only scored 18 points last week and could see an extremely similar score this week. That would leave around 33 points needed for the Stampeders, and I do not see them putting up a huge score with their ability to control possession and clock.
