Percival Molson Stadium hasn’t been kind to the Montreal Alouettes this season, but with a matchup against the struggling Ottawa Redblacks on deck, home momentum will swing in favor of the Quebec faithful.
Led by quarterback Davis Alexander, my Redblacks vs. Alouettes predictions expect Montreal to continue its historic domination against Ottawa.
Here are my CFL picks for Monday, October 13, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. ET on TSN.
Redblacks vs Alouettes prediction
My Redblacks vs Alouettes pick: Alouettes -13.5 (-120 at BET99)
Davis Alexander has been sidelined for the majority of the season due to a hamstring injury, but when healthy, the Montreal Alouettes pivot boasts a 72.6% completion rate and a 108.1 passer rating in five starts.
Montreal moved on from Cody Fajardo in the offseason to make Alexander their long-term franchise quarterback. Now that he's returned after re-aggravating his hamstring in mid-July, the 26-year-old signal-caller has the Alouettes poised for a playoff run.
In his first game back two weeks ago, Alexander led Montreal to a 38-20 win over Calgary, throwing for 350 yards and a touchdown. Add in a Week 18 bye, and Monday's matchup should give them a further leg up against an Ottawa Redblacks defence surrendering 6.83 yards per play and 28.9 points per game — both ranking second-worst in the league.
Meanwhile, the Redblacks have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs following a disappointing 4-11 campaign. As a result, starting QB Dru Brown has been shut down for the rest of the season, and backup Dustin Crum will get the nod on Monday.
Crum has made five starts this season while Brown dealt with hip and knee injuries, but the success has been rather limited. In those appearances under center, Crum has thrown just four touchdown passes, with Ottawa suffering three double-digit losses in the process.
You’d have to go back to 2022 to find the last time Ottawa escaped Montreal with a win, and I’m forecasting a healthy Alouettes team covering this lofty number on Thanksgiving Monday.
Redblacks vs Alouettes same-game parlay (SGP)
Montreal has covered the spread in its last six games against Ottawa, all as favorites. Davis Alexander is also 9-0 as a starter in the CFL since joining the Als in 2022.
Ottawa has trailed by 10+ points at halftime in each of its last six games, averaging just 6.2 first-half points during that stretch.
