Alycia Baumgardner is hoping to make the most of her time in the spotlight as she defends her undisputed super featherweight title against Bo Mi Re Shin this evening.

With Baumgardner eyeing bigger fights and crossover opportunities, she’d be wise not to overlook the tough challenger in front of her.

Baumgardner is the favorite at -1,600, while Shin is listed as a +750 underdog. While Baumgardner is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport, her wandering eye to future opportunities may be giving her seemingly overmatched opponent a chance for an upset.

Baumgardner vs Shin prediction and pick

Fight analysis
Alycia Baumgardner is keeping busy and has her eye on bigger fights that can be made in her orbit, including an emerging grudge match with Caroline Dubois.

Bo Mi Re Shin lost a close decision to Dubois two fights ago, so her winning streak and proximity to Dubois make her a valuable opponent for Baumgardner.

Though Baumgardner is one of the best fighters in the sport and a considerable favorite, Shin is better than her 19-3-3 record indicates. The former title challenger from South Korea is a volume-based pressure fighter with a good chin and improving skills.

Recent media appearances from Baumgardner have suggested she’s looking ahead at Dubois and a potential WWE contract, with little to no mention of Shin.

Baumgardner is the better fighter with the more established track record, and she lands precise, hard-hitting shots that cause her opponents to rethink their approach.

The champion recently came off a one-sided victory over Leila Beaudoin, effortlessly beating her in a fight that was contested with three-minute rounds as opposed to the usual two for women’s boxing.

With this fight contested with three-minute rounds, this might make the fight more interesting. Shin’s style and activity might be better suited for the longer fight time.

Does that mean we can expect an upset? Likely not.

As long as Baumgardner can focus on the fight in front of her, she can use her precise punching and superior skill set to stay on course for bigger things.

Best best analysis
Baumgardner is known for her punching power but hasn’t scored a stoppage since 2021. Shin is durable, and she’ll crowd Baumgardner, who will be inviting her in to land body shots and sap her legs to slow her down in the later rounds.

Both fighters are in excellent condition, and I don’t see the extra time favoring one over the other. This is a fight that will go the distance, with Baumgardner prevailing via the judge's scorecards.

Covers COVERS INTEL: This will be Baumgardner’s second fight with three-minute rounds, and Shin’s first.
