Is sports betting legal in Oklahoma?
No, Oklahoma sports betting is not legal in May 2026. However, this is not due to a lack of effort, as local lawmakers — such as State Senator Casey Murdock and Representative Ken Luttrell — have each introduced several sports betting legislation bills since the U.S. Supreme Court overruled the federal ban in 2018.
Even Governor Kevin Stitt has recently made an effort to bring legalized betting to the Sooner State. Unfortunately, Gov. Stitt's vision does not align with the state's tribal nations, which currently operate over 100 retail casinos in 2026. Stitt wants to change the state's sports betting legislation to create an open market, allowing major companies like FanDuel and DraftKings to receive operating licenses from the state, as well as local sports franchises. This fundamental disagreement has led to numerous stalled bills — including Senate Bill 585, which was recently removed from legislative discussions mere hours before it was set to be discussed.

The first major sports betting bill — House Bill 1027 — was proposed in 2023 and included a progressive tax rate for sportsbooks ranging from 4% to 6%. Later that year, Governor Stitt announced his plan, which included a 20% tax rate. Oklahoma lawmakers disagree with its Governor and have still not agreed on the actual rate for its online sports betting market.
As mentioned above, the tension between Governor Stitt and state tribal nations looms. Governor Stitt says he wants a 'fair deal' and will not approve any bill that gives tribal nations a monopoly on sports betting, which they are pushing for by amending their current gambling compacts with the state.
It's difficult to imagine Oklahoma legalizing any piece of sports betting legislation until both of these major issues are resolved.
