The race for the WNBA No. 1 seed is heating up, and we get a closer look at two of the leading contenders tonight, with both the Minnesota Lynx and Golden State Valkyries in action.

Though injuries are hitting hard across the league, the WNBA player props market continues to deliver a platter of options, and that sets up wagers on backcourt stars Veronica Burton and Kayla McBride.

Read on for my free WNBA picks ahead of the July 6 hoops action.

Veronica Burton Over 11.5 points (-110)

The Golden State Valkyries enter tonight’s matchup against the Washington Mystics on a four-game win streak, and I’m counting on Veronica Burton to have a starring role as the engine of the offense.

Burton bounced back from a few quieter shooting nights with a 21-point gem at the weekend to sink the Atlanta Dream, but this O/U points line seems to place too much emphasis on her underwhelming late-June numbers.

The Valkyries point guard is still averaging 12.6 ppg this season, and her work on the defensive end may be lightened if Washington’s Sonia Citron (questionable) sits out.

Burton is making her 3-pointers at a respectable 35% clip, and I’m buying into her career-high 9.9 FGA per game this season.

Kayla McBride Over 15.5 points (-112)

The Minnesota Lynx’s 15-5 record without Napheesa Collier this season is one of the league’s best stories. Collier remains out tonight while Olivia Miles is questionable with a calf issue, so that makes Kayla McBride a natural prop target against the 4-16 Connecticut Sun.

McBride has nailed this Over in her past three outings, and she’s been especially assertive from beyond the arc in that span, taking 33 shots from beyond the arc. That aggressive mindset should continue tonight, with the Sun allowing 86.6 ppg and losing eight of their last 10 games.

The Lynx will need big minutes from McBride and fellow veteran Courtney Williams, and there’s a nice floor for this prop as the Minnesota sharpshooter has scored at least 14 points in eight of her past nine contests.

Flau'jae Johnson Over 5.5 rebounds (-105)

It’s a developmental year for the Seattle Storm, so there’s every incentive to let rookie Flau’jae Johnson cook. That was a winning formula in a pair of Seattle late-June victories, and I’m taking the Over on her rebounds tally in tonight’s battle with the Kelsey Plum-less Los Angeles Sparks.

Johnson has grabbed 8+ boards in three of her last four games, and the Sparks have looked vulnerable on the glass lately, losing the rebounding battle in each of their past four outings.

The Storm have a fearsome crew in the paint, with Dominique Malongab, Ezi Magbegor and Awa Fam all fighting to vacuum up misses, but Johnson has wasted no time establishing herself as one of the WNBA’s best rebounders at the guard position.
