The Sun are desperate to end their recent skid, but self-inflicted wounds stand in their way. Both teams are deeply flawed, but the Mystics are simply the better-positioned squad to execute.

The Connecticut Sun will try to break a five-game losing streak when they host the Washington Mystics on Wednesday night.

Connecticut is among the worst teams in the WNBA in nearly all major categories, and I’m taking Washington to win in my Mystics vs. Sun predictions below.

Let’s take a closer look at tonight’s matchup as I reveal my free WNBA picks for Wednesday, June 17.

Mystics vs Sun prediction

Mystics vs Sun best bet: Mystics moneyline (-120)

The Connecticut Sun are the consensus worst team the WNBA, ranking second-last in offensive rating (96.3) and 12th in defensive rating (110.8).

They’re dead last in many key metrics, ranging from effective field goal percentage (45.8%) to foul rate (25.9%) and points allowed per scoring attempt (1.18).

The Washington Mystics draw a league-leading 24.1 fouls per game, and are strong in the paint, ranking third in rebounding rate (53.8%).

That creates lots of easy points, which is too much for Connecticut to deal with. I like Washington to win outright at -130 or better.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Mystics average 42.5 points in the paint per game, the second-highest total in the WNBA. That will be a problem for the Sun, who allow opponents to shoot 54.5% inside the arc.

Mystics vs Sun same-game parlay

These are two of the worst offensive teams in the WNBA. The Mystics rank 13th in scoring at 81.4 ppg, with Connecticut coming in at 14th (77.9 ppg).

Neither likes to play particularly quickly either, with Washington playing especially slow at just 81.5 possessions per 40 minutes, the third-lowest mark in the league.

One player who has been producing for the Mystics lately has been Michaela Onyenwere. The forward is averaging 11.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game this season, but has stepped up to score exactly 17 points in each of her last three games while putting up 4.7 rebounds per contest in that span.

She should easily hit per combined points and rebounds total against the Sun tonight.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
