Olivia Miles took it easy on Monday; she should pour it in tonight against the Sparks' lacking defense.

The Minnesota Lynx need some help from Phoenix to hope to advance in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup, but that is just possible enough that it should provide plenty of fuel for Minnesota against the Los Angeles Sparks.

My Lynx vs. Sparks predictions and these WNBA picks focus on doubting LA’s defense on Wednesday, June 17.

Lynx vs Sparks prediction

Lynx vs Sparks best bet: Olivia Miles Over 17.5 points (-125)

Olivia Miles eased up on Monday, as the Minnesota Lynx walloped Portland by 33 points. Before that, the rookie had scored 20 points in three of her last four games, pivoting from being a pass-first PG to looking for her own shot.

That rout hid Miles’s blossoming scoring. And while the Los Angeles Sparks are plenty porous themselves, this game should remain more competitive, giving Miles plenty of time to tilt toward the 11.3 shots per game she averaged in the five games before Monday’s laugher when she went just 6-of-8 from the field, making 20 points an expectation.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Sparks rank No. 14 in the WNBA in defensive rating this season, hardly ahead of the Fire, but in the month of June, LA has climbed up to a respectable No. 9, which should help keep tonight nominally competitive.

Lynx vs Sparks same-game parlay

Kelsey Plum is having one of her best seasons, a lofty bar to clear, but the Lynx will simply not care. Their defense is too good for a one-horse offense like the Sparks’ to find success.

Furthermore, Plum’s questionable defense that allows Miles to score at will should only force LA to live in its halfcourt offense, never an ideal.

The combination of Miles’ success and Plum’s struggles should make it rather straightforward for Minnesota to cover the spread for the 10th time in its last 11 games.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
