The Phoenix Mercury will look to extend their road winning streak as they visit the Golden State Valkyries tonight.

Considering these teams play at a slow pace and don’t generate many easy baskets, I'm backing the Under in my Mercury vs. Valkyries predictions.

Mercury vs Valkyries prediction

Mercury vs Valkyries best bet: Under 162.5 (-110)

If you were looking for teams that want to slow down the pace of play, you can’t do much better than these two. The Golden State Valkyries rank dead last in pace in the WNBA, while the Phoenix Mercury come in at 12th.

Golden State is also shooting a league-worst 42.5% from inside the arc, and the Valkyries score 42.9% of their points on threes, a high-variance style that can lead to nights where the offense goes cold.

With Phoenix sitting just 13th in FG%, I'm taking the Under as long as it stays above 160 points.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Valkyries rank 11th in the WNBA in effective field-goal percentage at 49.1%, with the Mercury just behind them in 12th (47.0%). That, combined with a slow pace, promises to keep tonight’s scoring to a minimum.

Mercury vs Valkyries same-game parlay

The Mercury are riding a two-game road winning streak, including prevailing as an underdog against the Portland Fire on Friday. With the Golden State Valkyries having lost three of their last four, this is a good opportunity for the Mercury to continue finding success.

Gabby Williams is one of Golden State's top volume shooters from deep, making 2.1 threes per game at a 38.3% clip. Phoenix allows a league-worst 38.4% shooting from downtown, and Williams is primed to take advantage of that weakness.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
