Michael Page faces off against former middleweight title challenger Jared Cannonier in a high-stakes middleweight clash on the UFC 319 undercard.

One of Bellator’s finest fighters looks to continue his strong run in the UFC, aiming to take Cannonier down in hopes of narrowing down his path to a fight with the division’s true elite.

UFC odds list Page as the -200 favorite over the +155 underdog Cannonier. Here are my best Cannonier vs. Page predictions and free betting picks from the United Center in Chicago.

Cannonier vs Page prediction and best bet

Fight analysis
Michael “Venom” Page’s transition to the UFC has gone far smoother than many of his fellow Bellator imports.

After defeating Kevin Holland and outstriking Ian Garry before dropping a narrow decision, Page moved up to middleweight and impressed with a win over hyped prospect Shara Magomedov. A victory over Jared Cannonier could position him as a dark-horse contender in an already stacked division.

Page’s awkward style, honed footwork, and sharp striking fundamentals make him one of the trickiest reads in MMA. He’ll enter with both height and reach advantages, allowing him to control range with his jab and set up shots through movement.

In three UFC bouts, he’s landed 62% of his strikes while absorbing just 1.78 per minute, showing that he’s just as good as he’s ever been at 38. While his grappling deficiencies have been exploited in the past, Cannonier’s wrestling is situational at best, meaning this fight is likely to remain on the feet.

Cannonier, now 41, still carries fight-ending power and averages 4.6 significant strikes per minute, but his movement has slowed, making his attacks easier to anticipate.

He snapped a two-fight skid earlier this year by knocking out Gregory Rodrigues, yet losses to Caio Borralho and Nassourdine Imavov showed his vulnerability against rangy, technically disciplined strikers who ended up battering him.

At this point in his career, Cannonier needs his opponents to help him out as he’s struggling to generate his offense, and he’ll find no help from Page, who will use his height and range advantages to keep this a distance fight.

Unless Page abandons his game plan and engages in the kind of brawl Cannonier thrives in, this is his fight to lose. Cannonier’s size and power will keep things tense, but over three rounds, Page’s precision, speed, and tactical discipline should carry the day.

Best bet analysis
Page is still fighting at a high level and is hard to beat without reliable wrestling skills. Cannonier’s size might be an issue as he is naturally the bigger man, but he’s older and slower, and these types of opponents who won’t rush into a firefight are the kind that have soundly beaten him in the past.

Page will be too crafty and slick for Cannonier, whose durability and looming danger of a brutal knockout shot will keep Page honest for the duration of the fight. My best bet is Page winning by decision.
