Davis Martin has quietly become one of the most electric arms in the White Sox rotation, and tonight’s matchup sets up beautifully for another strong outing. The right-hander is averaging 6.6 strikeouts per start this season and an even stronger 7.25 at home. Over his last five starts, Martin owns an elite 32.5% strikeout rate with impressive swing-and-miss metrics across the board. He now faces a Twins lineup that has struggled with strikeouts on the road, carrying the fifth-highest road strikeout rate in baseball. With several Minnesota hitters trending poorly in that department, Martin is in a prime spot to clear this number.

While Chicago should still generate offense against Minnesota’s bullpen game, this projects as a more controlled matchup overall. Daulton Varsho profiles as a strong contender to punish Bassitt today as a left-handed slugger who crushes the sinker Despite owning a .373 average on the pitch, Bassitt throws it more than any other pitch in his arsenal This is where Varsho profiles well, owning a .394 average against the sinker with a 50% hard hit rate. I’ll also target Kazuma Okamoto Over 0.5 hits. The Jays' third baseman has crushed the sinker as well, owning a .444 average with a 62% hard-hit rate against the pitch.

The Toronto Blue Jays get a shot at former teammate Chris Bassitt, who has taken a clear step back this season. His strikeout rate has fallen off, and his grip on a rotation spot feels much looser than it once did. There is a reason Toronto didn’t bring him back, and familiarity matters here against a lineup that knows him well. His BlastContact% suggests even more damage should be coming, as the fly balls are being hit hard and the expected metrics indicate the struggles are very real. George Springer might not be the healthiest player these days, but the bat speed and swing path are still there. He owns the best Ideal Attack Angle percentage on the team, per FanGraphs, and has already gone deep twice over the last seven days while sporting a .577 slugging percentage. He has also taken Bassitt deep twice in a smaller 17-at-bat sample. Of the Toronto bats on this short late Thursday slate, Springer at +450 or better is the best home run look.

While Colin Rea has struggled a bit this year, he has put up a strong 32.2% chase rate, which will play well against a Pirates team that ranks third-worst in whiff percentage this year at 27.5%. Combine that with Pittsburgh's tendancy towards the Under in Skenes' starts, and I'm comfortable backing the Under at -110 tonight.
Paul Skenes is coming off the roughest two-game stretch of his young career, allowing nine earned runs in 10 innings of work in two losses for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Skenes has seen opponents square up more of his pitches than ever, with 32.7% of batted balls landing in the Launch Angle Sweet Spot this season. The Cubs offense has enough pop to make Chicago a great value at +140 or more tonight.

I like the pitching matchup too good to eyeball any hitters on either side, so we'll grab the Under on the game total, the Over on Nathan Eovaldi's strikeouts, and the Over on Spencer Arrighetti's outs recorded prop to round us out at a nice +415 pricetag.
