Last Meeting ( May 5, 2025 ) LA Dodgers 7, Miami 4

The Los Angeles Dodgers, who are set to play the host Miami Marlins again on Tuesday night, are without the services of 13 pitchers due to injuries.

Some of the injured Dodgers are prominent, including starters Blake Snell, Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani, who is serving as the DH but not yet ready to pitch.

Despite those issues, the Dodgers have won eight of their past nine games, including a 7-4 victory over Miami in the opening contest of this series on Monday.

On Tuesday, there will be a matchup of right-handers. Miami will start Cal Quantrill (2-3, 8.10 ERA). Los Angeles will start Tony Gonsolin (1-0, 4.50).

Gonsolin -- in keeping with the Dodgers theme -- returned from injury to make his season debut last Wednesday, and he did it against the Marlins. Gonsolin won that game, 12-7, lasting six innings and allowing six hits, no walks and three runs. He struck out nine batters.

For his career, Gonsolin is 35-11 with a 3.21 ERA in 80 appearances, including 72 starts.

Gonsolin, who turns 31 on May 14, has spent his entire career with the Dodgers, and he has been solid. In 2022, he was much more than that, going 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA.

But he slipped last season, going 8-5 with a career-high 4.98 ERA before going down due to elbow surgery.

Now Gonsolin is back with his trademark split-finger fastball. One hint of caution for Gonsolin: He is just 1-1 with a 7.98 ERA in three career starts against Miami.

The Marlins, meanwhile, have had their rotation weakened by trading away starters such as Jesus Luzardo and Trevor Rogers.

In addition, Marlins starters Eury Perez, Braxton Garrett and Ryan Weathers are on the injured list.

That has opened the proverbial door for Quantrill, who is 1-7 with an 8.22 ERA in nine career games (eight starts) against the Dodgers.

For his career, Quantrill is 45-37 with a 4.21 ERA. His best season came in 2022, when he went 15-5 with a 3.38 ERA.

Quantrill on Tuesday will face a loaded Dodgers lineup that includes Ohtani and Freddie Freeman, both of whom homered on Monday.

Ohtani's homer -- his ninth of the season -- was clocked at 117.9 mph, making it the hardest-hit ball of the 2025 MLB season.

Freeman is starting to heat up as he has three homers in his past five games.

The Dodgers also have speed in rookie second baseman Hyeseong Kim, a 26-year-old native of South Korea who got his first MLB hit on Monday.

"He's still adjusting with the bat," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Kim. "But he gives us versatility and base-running."

Kim finished Monday's game 2-for-4 with one steal, one RBI and one run.

As for the Marlins, some of their standouts include rookie catcher Agustin Ramirez, center fielder Dane Myers and corner outfielder Kyle Stowers.

Ramirez has four homers and an .899 OPS in 12 games this season. He blasted a three-run, 424-foot homer on Monday.

"He is trusting his eyes to fire at the right pitches," Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said of Ramirez on Monday.

Myers, who went 2-for-4 with an assist on Monday, has a .926 OPS. He has five assists this season as he continues to flash one of the strongest outfield arms in the majors.

Stowers, who has a .902 OPS, is the reigning National League Player of the Week.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
