Seattle @ Los Angeles preview

Angel Stadium

Last Meeting ( Aug 5, 2011 ) Seattle 0, LA Angels 1

THE STORY: The Seattle Mariners might want to visit Disneyland before they face the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. They could use a little magic at nearby Angel Stadium, where they've lost 17 of their last 19 games. The Angels moved a season-high 11 over .500 and improved to 16-4 over their last 20 home games with Friday's 1-0, 10-inning triumph over the Mariners.

TV: 9:05 p.m. ET, Root Sports, Fox Sports West

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Blake Beavan (2-2, 3.24 ERA) vs. Angels RH Tyler Chatwood (6-7, 3.93 ERA)

Beavan is making his sixth major league start. He gave up three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings Monday against Oakland. Beavan faced the Angels on July 8 and allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings. Chatwood has lost three of four starts, and he's winless in his last five home starts. He yielded a career-high six earned runs in his last start against Detroit, but he's allowed three earned runs or fewer in three of his last four starts.

ABOUT THE ANGELS (62-51): It's still anyone's guess who will replace Joel Pineiro in the starting rotation. The Angels, who sent Pineiro to the bullpen after he compiled a 14.85 ERA in his last four starts, won't need a fifth starter until Wednesday. Among the candidates is top pitching prospect Garrett Richards, who has a 3.06 ERA over 141 innings for Double-A Arkansas. The Angels could also opt for relievers Hisanori Takahashi and Horacio Ramirez or Triple-A starters Trevor Bell, Jerome Williams and Eric Junge. Jered Weaver was able to pitch Friday after appealing his six-game suspension, but he's expected to drop his appeal and begin serving his suspension Saturday. He would be eligible to pitch Aug. 13 in Toronto. Slumping designated hitter Bobby Abreu was back in the lineup after sitting out Thursday against the Twins. Abreu, who went 0-for-4 on Friday, entered the game with just 12 hits in 81 at-bats in 23 games since July 4.

ABOUT THE MARINERS (48-63): Seattle's youth movement continued Friday when the Mariners promoted Trayvon Robinson from Triple-A Tacoma, where he played just two games after being acquired in the Erik Bedard trade last week. Robinson hit .300 with 26 home runs in 100 games for the Dodgers' Triple-A team before the trade. He batted ninth and started in left field, going 1-for-3 in his major league debut. Robinson is the 13th rookie to play for Seattle this season, the most in the American League. He's expected to share time with Casper Wells and Mike Carp in left. Robinson could also see time in center field when Franklin Gutierrez needs a day off. Infielder Jack Wilson made just his fourth start at shortstop Friday and went 0-for-4. Wilson was a career shortstop before moving to second base this season. First baseman Justin Smoak missed his second straight game with a bruised left thumb. He's listed as day-to-day.

FINAL PITCH: The Mariners are 3-11 in their last 14 during game two of a series.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
