PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Zach Stewart (0-1, 4.86 ERA) vs. Twins RH Carl Pavano (6-8, 4.90 ERA).
Stewart will be recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to make his White Sox debut. Acquired on July 27 in a deal that sent Edwin Jackson to Toronto, the 24-year-old went 0-1 with a 4.86 ERA in three starts for the Blue Jays. His last outing was June 27, when he received a no-decision at Detroit after allowing two runs in six innings. Pavano has won just once in his last seven starts. He is coming off back-to-back rough outings in which he surrendered 15 runs in nine innings, and has been tagged for nine hits in three straight games. Pavano is 8-3 in 11 starts against Chicago and 2-0 this season.
ABOUT THE TWINS (51-61): Jason Kubel's home run Friday was the 100th of his career. Twenty have come against the White Sox. Jim Thome did not play, leaving him two home runs shy of becoming the eighth player in major league history to reach 600. Closer Joe Nathan has not recorded a save since July 26, keeping him tied with Rick Aguilera for the franchise lead at 254.
ABOUT THE WHITE SOX (53-58): Chicago drew seven walks in Friday's victory. It did not receive a single free pass while being swept at home in its four-game series against New York. Carlos Quentin homered twice and drove in four runs in the win. It was Quentin's fourth multi-homer performance of the season and the 14th of his career. Mark Buehrle's victory was his 157th, moving him past Eddie Cicotte for seventh on the franchise list. Chicago has won 12 of its last 17 road games. Reliever Brian Bruney was designated for assignment to make room for Stewart. In 23 appearances, Bruney was 1-0 but allowed 15 runs in 19 2/3 innings for a 6.86 ERA.
FINAL PITCH: Buehrle has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last 17 starts. It's the longest such streak by a White Sox pitcher since Dave Lemonds' 17-game stretch in 1972.
