PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Brandon Beachy (3-1, 3.21 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Ubaldo Jimenez (5-8, 4.08 ERA).
Beachy, who will be making his 13th start of the season, is 3-0 in his last 10 outings. The 24-year old allowed two runs over six innings at Philadelphia on July 8 but settled for a no-decision. Beachy has allowed more than three runs just twice and worked at least six innings nine times.
Jimenez is seeking his third consecutive victory and fifth in six decisions. He is coming off a win over Milwaukee on Thursday in which he allowed two runs over six innings. Jimenez, who tossed a no-hitter against Atlanta last season, is 2-4 in seven career starts against the Braves. The 27-year old is just 2-5 with a 5.89 ERA in 10 home outings this year.
ABOUT THE ROCKIES (45-51): Colorado has yet to win a four-game series at home, going 0-1-2. Jimenez is tied with Jeff Francis for third on the franchise list with 55 victories and is three behind Jason Jennings for second place. Aaron Cook is the Rockies' all-time wins leader with 69. 3B Ian Stewart rode the bench Monday, presumably because of his 1-for-15 career showing against Atlanta's Derek Lowe. However, Stewart's two errors in Sunday's loss to Milwaukee could have factored into manager Jim Tracy's decision. Replacement Ty Wigginton went 0-for-4 on Monday.
ABOUT THE BRAVES (57-39): RF Jason Heyward was scratched from Monday's lineup due to a bruised left foot. Heyward suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch Sunday against Washington. 3B Chipper Jones, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on July 9, worked out with Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. The veteran is expected to begin a rehab assignment later this week. 2B Dan Uggla singled in the second inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. Martin Prado went 2-for-5, leaving him on hit away from 500 for his career.
FINAL PITCH: Braves closer Craig Kimbrel posted his 29th save Monday, one shy of Atlanta's rookie record set in 1998 by Kerry Ligtenberg. Kimbrel has made 16 consecutive scoreless appearances, last allowing a run on June 11 at Houston.
