St. Louis @ Milwaukee preview

Miller Park

Last Meeting ( Aug 19, 2013 ) St. Louis 8, Milwaukee 5

The St. Louis Cardinals attempt to continue their dominance of the host Milwaukee Brewers when the National League Central rivals meet for the second contest of their three-game series Tuesday. St. Louis squandered three leads in Monday's opener before staging a two-out, four-run rally in the eighth inning en route to an 8-5 triumph. The Cardinals' bench was instrumental in the comeback as pinch hitters Daniel Descalso, Matt Adams and David Freese combined to go 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

The victory was the third in a row for St. Louis, which remained one game behind the first-place Pittsburgh Pirates in the Central. The Cardinals also improved to 9-2 overall against the Brewers this season and 5-0 in Milwaukee. The last-place Brewers have lost four of their last six contests.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Lance Lynn (13-6, 3.89 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Kyle Lohse (8-8, 3.17)

Lynn escaped with a no-decision against the Pirates on Thursday after yielding four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old allowed three or fewer runs in each of his previous four outings, going 2-1 in the process. Lynn is 2-1 with a 2.59 ERA in seven career games versus Milwaukee, including three starts.

Lohse suffered his first loss in six outings on Thursday despite allowing just two runs - one earned - over seven innings against the Cincinnati Reds. The 34-year-old has yielded more than two earned runs only once in his last six starts. Lohse fell to 2-5 lifetime versus St. Louis by losing each of his previous three meetings with his former club this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong went 2-for-5 Monday after going hitless in his first eight major-league at-bats.

2. Brewers 1B Juan Francisco has struck out four times in each of his last two games.

3. Milwaukee OF Carlos Gomez is unlikely to start due to a sprained right knee but could come off the bench in the series.

PREDICTION: Cardinals 5, Brewers 2

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
