The Premier League is back, and Saturday’s slate is headlined by Wolves and Manchester City meeting at Molineux.

Wolves finished 16th in the Premier League last season but survived thanks to terrible performances from the three promoted teams, while City will be hoping to improve after their third-place finish. Our Wolves vs. Man City predictions expect a tightly-contested game, with Wolves’ Joao Gomes getting booked in the process.

Read on for my free betting picks for Saturday, August 16, with kickoff at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

Premier League predictions for Wolves vs Man City

My Wolves vs Man City best bet: Joao Gomes to be booked (+230 at FanDuel)

Teams often find it hard against Man City, with Guardiola’s team dominating possession and having a number of creative players who can break down even the best defense. Against this team, you need to be disciplined as well as incredibly hard-working defensively.

City have signed a number of new midfielders in Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, both of whom, along with January-signed Omar Marmoush and the overlapping fullbacks, should make this City team quicker and more direct.

Direct play for City increases the chances of Wolves’ fouls, and subsequently, cards being shown. When looking at the likely Wolves lineup, it’s the central midfield duo that leap out with Brazilians Andre and Joao Gomes both very capable of getting in amongst it and being physical. Both are good candidates to commit fouls here, but Gomes offers the best chance of a card.

The 24-year old got booked 10 times in the Premier Leaugue, one of which was a red card, and his love of a tackle could cause real problems against the tricky City attackers.

Given the talent in the City attack, their dribbling ability, as well as the amount of possession that they’ll have, it makes sense to back a Gomes card.

Wolves vs Man City same-game parlay (SGP)

Joao Gomes to be booked

Both teams to score

Tijjani Reijnders to score

In addition to the best bet, we’re backing both teams to score.

With Erling Haaland and Marmoush in the City attack, it’s obvious why they’ll score. Wolves have added Jhon Arias as their Matheus Cunha replacement, and Jorgen Strand Larsen went under the radar last year and scored 14 Premier League goals.

With City’s new tactic of attacking fullbacks, it’s going to leave their defense slightly more vulnerable, and Wolves should be able to take advantage.

On the City side, there’s real value in backing Tijjani Reijnders to score.

The 27-year old has arrived in Manchester after two seasons in Milan, with the Dutchman scoring 10 times in Serie A last season. He’s been scoring for fun in preseason, and with his late runs into the box, he’s a great value option to score here.
