France vs Germany picks and predictions

Looking ahead at this summer’s European Championships, it seems like France’s tournament to lose, and this Saturday they face the hosts, Germany, in Lyon. It’s going to be a fascinating warm-up game and a chance to see where both teams are at. We’re expecting both Didier Deschamp and Julian Nagelsmann to name strong teams in this first game of the international break.

With both sides looking like they’re going to be playing their best teams, or what their coaches deem to be the best teams, it makes picking an outcome for this game a little easier. It’s really hard to look beyond a French win, but we’re going to go even further to grab some extra value and make our best bet for France vs Germany, France -1.5 at +195.

We know that Manuel Neuer is missing, with the goalkeeper having pulled out through injury. The Germany squad has seen an overhaul since the last international break, in which they lost to Austria. Nagelsmann has cut Leon Goretzka, Niklas Sule, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Mats Hummels, and they’ll be hoping to make a return for the Euros.

On the flip side of that, we’re seen Toni Kroos return, coming back from the international wilderness for the first time in nearly three years. He’ll be a big boost for the team and should start. While the likes of Kroos and Ilkay Gundogan are experienced and hugely talented players, and the likes of Jamal Musiala and Florien Wirtz are both incredible younger players, this team doesn’t have the depth of quality that the French team does.

France are only without two of their established players, with Antoine Griezmann having to pull out with injury, ending his 84 game run of consecutive appearances, and Kingsley Coman. They will again boast an incredible defense that arguably has more world-class players than most teams have in their entire squads. A young dynamic midfield of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, who should have the legs over their Germany counterparts.

Then there’s the French attack, which really is their best area. They have Olivier Giroud as the team’s focal point, bringing the other forwards into play, which will likely be Ousmane Dembele on the right flank, and of course, Kylian Mbappe on the left. Mbappe is a truly world-class talent and one which frightens any defense. He’ll likely be matched up against Joshua Kimmich, who should start at right back and will be tasked with stopped the PSG forward.

With Germany’s new-look team, it might take them a couple of games to gel and look coherent, something which France should be able to take advantage of in Lyon. The absence of Griezmann is a concern for the home side, but this is a team who have scored 34 goals in 10 games since they lost to Argentina in the World Cup final. Even with a huge chunk coming against Gibraltar in qualifying, this is a team who have real attacking quality and should beat Germany by multiple goals.

France vs Germany same-game parlay

France -1.5

First-half result - France

Kylian Mbappe to score

In addition to France winning by two or more goals, we’re also backing them to be winning at halftime. This is a side who start fast, and we’ve seen them go into the halftime break with a lead in their previous four games against Greece, Gibraltar, Scotland, and the Netherlands.

The third and final leg of our Same-Game Parlay is for Kylian Mbappe to score. The 25-year old needs no introduction but it almost feels like we’ve forgotten just how good he is, especially playing in Ligue 1, something that should change this summer with the forward likely to move to Real Madrid. He’s played eight times in qualifiers for this season’s Euros, with one of those appearances coming from the bench, but has still scored nine goals and assisted five more.

He’s also averaged a goal per game for PSG this seaso,n with 24 goals in 24 outings, as well as scoring six times in the Champions League and seven in the Coupe de France. He’s a goal-scorer of the highest quality and should add to his tally of 46 goals for France in a match where we expect scoring.

France vs Germany side and Over/Under analysis

You can get France at -124 on the moneyline, which is the best option on the moneyline. However, there’s better value to be had playing on the spreads. France are the superior team and should win handily, especially with Germany’s team having a new look. If you want to back Germany you can get +290 to win this one, as they did last time they faced France, with the draw at +270.

If you’re looking to play the total goals market then you can get Over 2.5 at -148 and the Under at +106. Given what we’ve seen from France in attack over this qualification campaign, and the fact that Germany’s team is undergoing a change, we should see plenty of goals.
